This is such an amazing read. As a Black American this author's writing was comforting because these poems were written in the language in which I speak. It was comforting but the stories were heart breakingly real, raw, relatable, and just overall amazing!!!! Though this isn't my typical ARC I do not regret requesting it at all! Jasmine's writing style also reminded me a bit of Maya Angelou which I thought was pretty cool. To be 100% real after reading this I feel like I want to get back to reading poetry just like I used to and I think that's honestly amazing that Jasmine's writing did that for me. This book made me remember how raw and real poetry is because though it's such few words that are chosen, the words that are chosen that have multiple meanings say a lot. I definitely recommend picking this up because number one the cover is amazing and the writing is unbelievable!!!
Rising From The Roots is a powerful, evocative journey told through verse. Each piece contributes to a broader narrative of becoming, of discovering self, of embracing love, of healing. There’s a quiet strength in the way Jasmine weaves complexity into minimalism. Her words feel both deeply vulnerable and strikingly affirming. Some verses are breathtaking in their elegance, others hit with unfiltered truth, but all resonate.
Rising From the Roots felt like poetry for the soul. Healing, understanding, and an eye opening experience of deeper emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed reading each poem.
A beautiful collection of poetry that represents its title, Rising from the Roots. I would definitely read again as poetry can always be looked back on. And there is no exception is this case.
Rising From The Roots is a stunning collection of poetry. The poems create a story of growth, identity and love. It’s emotionally intelligent and empowering. Some are beautiful and others raw. There is something about poetry that’s utterly exposing and authentic. Overall there is a theme of hope and change. It was a beautiful collection to read. Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.

Great poetry book! I particularly appreciated the poems about sexuality and figuring out who you are while dealing with external pressure and hate. Because English isn’t my native language though, I didn’t understand all of the poems. I have no idea what some of them were about but I still appreciated the book overall.
Thank you Netgalley, and Jasmine Farrell for sending me this advanced review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was an amazing book of poetry. I loved how everything flowed with a kind of beat. I could see a lot of these poems being put to music. The words are simple, but hold a lot of raw emotion to them as well. The poems are a long, almost stream of consciousness journey. I've never read anything like this before at all, and it's facinating how it flows.
It's a journey though life, with tough painful moments, but also tender ones as well. The LGBTQ+ vibes are so perfect, and mirror a lot of my friends experiences as well.
Rising From the Roots is some of the best poetry I’ve ever read. It was honest, raw, emotional, sometimes messy, sometimes really pretty sounding and other times less so.
Jasmine has such a gift for telling a story with so few words and in such a simple way.
Thanks so much for the arc Jasmine and NetGalley. Super enjoyed and highly recommend even if you don’t typically like poetry!
Rising From the Roots is one of those poetry collections that feels like opening someone’s diary—tender, raw, and incredibly real. Each poem unfolds like a quiet revelation, moving through love, loss, growth, and identity with a simplicity that hits deep. Farrell's words don’t try to be overly fancy; they’re just honest—and that’s what makes them so powerful. I especially connected with “Note to Self” and “Waiting for the Good Part,” which lingered with me long after I closed the book.
Feelings? Met. Me? Wrecked. In the best way.
This book had me snapping fingers like I was at a spoken word slam in my own living room. Rising From the Roots is pure emotional nectar—bittersweet, relatable, and totally bingeable if poems can be binged (they can, I did). Every line felt like it had been secretly plucked from my inner monologue, but prettier. Read it if your heart needs a hug... or a reality check. 🌿📝💔
