Description

A violent death and a vault of stolen treasures has Eve Dallas struggling to solve crimes old and new in the next thriller in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series.

A blow to the head with a block of amethyst has left multibillionaire Nathan Barrister dead—while nearby, a vault, its door ajar, sits filled with priceless paintings, jewelry, and other treasures. Lieutenant Eve Dallas’s husband, Roarke—who misspent his youth in Ireland as a scrappy thief—recognizes at least two stolen pieces among the hoard. The crime scene suggests a burglar caught in the act. But only one item seems to be missing.

Then it’s revealed that the vault had actually belonged to the victim’s late father—and no one in the household knew it was there until a recent remodeling project exposed it. To protect the family name and business, they explain to Eve, they’d been looking for a way to return the ill-gotten gains anonymously and avoid the police. But now the police are all over their elegant house, and have a bigger, bloodier mystery to solve.

By all accounts, Nathan Barrister was a good man, a generous employer, a devoted husband and father. As for his father—he clearly had secrets. Now it’s up to Eve and her team to find out if those secrets got Nathan killed—and if it was a crime of passion or revenge.

A violent death and a vault of stolen treasures has Eve Dallas struggling to solve crimes old and new in the next thriller in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series.

Another amazing read from J.D. Robb! This installment delivers a twist at the end that I absolutely never saw coming. As always, there’s the perfect balance of fun and drama—especially in Eve’s interactions with her team and friends. I always recommend this series because it truly has something for everyone. Though it’s set in the future, it blends a strong female lead, gripping police investigations, a touch of romance, deep friendships, and a sense of found family—all the elements that make these books such a joy to read.

Stolen in death, the 62nd book in J. D. Robb's In Death series begins with a lavish ball that brings together so many of the friends that Dallas has made over the years, people who have come to matter to her readers as we have come to know them. Of course, dancing in the arms of Roark makes the public event easier for Dallas to swallow even if formal events will never be her favorite thing. Soon, Dallas and Peabody get the call that sends them into the world that Eve finds more comfortable, the world of death, greed, and deception. As all too often happens, the victim seems to have been a really nice guy who should have no enemies, but Dallas and Peabody, backed up back up by Roark, Feeney, and her team, won't slow down until they uncover the motive and the villain or villains. Fans are in for a delightful surprise that makes Stolen in Death stand out even among the In Death books.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins for allowing me to read an ARC of Stolen in Death. I can't imagine how J.D. Robb continue writing such outstanding books, but I am thrilled that she does.

I have read most, if not all of the "In Death" series. This is by far, my favorite. There are lots of surprising twists that make #62 different from the past editions. As always, Dallas is at her best and with Roarke and her team backing her up, it's a win! I highly recommend! Special thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC. Reading this one was my pleasure! You will love it too!

This was the in Death book that I didn't know I needed.

A masterclass in crime fiction that blends suspense, emotional depth, and wit. From the moment multibillionaire Nathan Barrister is found dead, Dallas is thrust into a case that’s as perplexing as it is dangerous. The adjacent vault filled with priceless treasures, some of which are recognized by Roarke from his own shadowy past, sets the stage for a thrilling investigation that spans decades and continents.

What makes this novel shine is the authors ability to weave old crimes with new motives, creating a layered narrative that keeps readers guessing. Only one item is missing from the vault, and that detail becomes the linchpin in unraveling a web of secrets, betrayal, and greed. Eve’s relentless pursuit of justice, paired with Roarke’s insider knowledge of the criminal underworld, makes for a dynamic duo that’s as compelling as ever.

The pacing is fast enough to keep you turning pages, yet deliberate enough to let the emotional stakes land. The dialogue is sharp, her characters richly drawn, and her plotting meticulous. With the return of an old character longtime fans will appreciate the continuity and character development, while newcomers will find themselves instantly hooked.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins press for this title, this is my very honest review.
