Description
Jörð forgive and protect my little Byrd, should she cling to the earth…
So carved Astrid's mother on a runestick, on the day she died. And so begins this tale.
Astrid is the eldest daughter of a prominent family in 1349 Bergen, Norway. Her mother struggles through her 19th pregnancy. Her father has ... changed.
Will is an English sailor with a heart of gold and an altruistic streak who has inadvertently caught the attention of an Old Power.
He is the one watching. Is He a God of Light, a Faustian dealmaker, a demon? Or merely a misunderstood being not so different from a man? Regardless, He is the one who wears Will Green’s face. He is their one and only chance.
Let the flames begin…
Byrdfyre Covenant is about desperation and loss, unbreakable bonds and Old Gods, and a young woman locked into a deal with a dark stranger that stole her humanity and chained her to him for eternity.
This is a series starter that will stay with you. Expect heart-pounding action, swoony slow-burn romance, twists and turns you won't expect, and a chilling and heart-rending cliffhanger ending ... because there's always more to the story.
Jayne Starwing is a new pen name for seasoned author Olivia M. Jacques (Women's Fiction, The Madisons), who is also the co-author of The Lightbringers series (Fantasy Romance). Byrdfyre Covenant merges Dark Fantasy Romance and Speculative Historical Fiction and will appeal to fans of V.E. Schwab (The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil), Audrey Niffenegger (The Time Traveler’s Wife) and Sarah J. Maas (Throne of Glass).

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I just finished Byrdfyre Covenant by Jayne Starwing (thanks for the early ARC!) and I’m still thinking about it. Obsessed. Can’t believe I get to be first with my review because this text blew my mind. This book is a beautifully written blend of historical fiction, literature, and romantasy, with slow-burn romance that really hit all the right notes for me. The story follows Astrid, a reluctant survivor of the Black Plague. Throw in a martyr of a mmc, and an Old Norse God and you get a recipe for greatness! Incredible book. Truly. I am FERAL for more. -Kate Carrington, Goodreads
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and I honestly didn’t know what to expect going in. What surprised me most was the emotional ride I took with the FMC. I loved her strength and persistence, but there were definitely moments I wanted to shake her for not seeing what was right in front of her! That push and pull made her feel real, and it’s exactly what kept me hooked. The mix of historical fiction with just a sprinkle of romance was a perfect combo. And a cliffhanger ending? I’m definitely hoping there’s more to come! -Kellie, Goodreads

Incredible. Loved it. Reminded me a lot of both The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and Our Infinite Fates.

I finished Byrdfyre Covenant by Jayne Starwing (thanks for the early ARC!) a little while ago but requested it again on NG just to post this. I’m still thinking about it, weeks later. I'm obsessed. This is an incredible series starter fantasy romance with a historical setting. Amazing. Slow burn, no spice, but sooooo much dreamy promise. Beautifully written. It's a blend of so many things - historical fiction, literature, and romantasy. It hit all the right notes. The story follows Astrid, a reluctant surviving of the Black Plague. Throw in a martyr and an Old God and more and you get a recipe for greatness! Incredible book. Truly. I am FERAL for more.
