A treacherous royal court, a hidden heir, and a world of magic

Heyla! Embers of Xy is another wonderful entry in the Blood of Xy series. Three stories entwine in this world of magic and treachery. Meet Tassos, a bitter, drug-addicted mage bent on revenge but struggling towards redemption. And Halithe, a young girl who longs to escape her father’s plans of marriage for her and the boredom of a lady’s life by apprenticing to a mage. The new rulers of the Kingdom of Xy are the cruel Queen Satia, a practitioner of dark magics and her husband, the dumb but brutal King Xyrath. In direct contrast to the rulers are the new Lord and Lady High Baron and Baroness of the Black Hills. Orval and Amari are creating a community built on trust and kindness while raising their twin babies.

I love this series! The characters are fascinating and richly drawn. I revile the rulers and cheer for Orval and Amari. The worldbuilding is stellar, and the intricate plotting kept me guessing. The series is set in the same world as the Chronicles of the Warlands, making the settings familiar. But it is hundreds of years in the future. I have one question for the author: When is the next book coming out?

Readers will find it helpful to have read the first book in the series, Ashes of Xy. I highly recommend Embers of Xy. Perfect for readers to immerse themselves in a fantasy world with magic, treacherous villains, danger at every turn, but also warm, lovable characters.
