The Silver Ships is an imaginative science fiction novel chronicling the first contact between two civilizations of humans separated by light years of distance and an immense difference in technology. They are drawn together by chance, when Alexander Racine encounters a derelict ship and after a risky maneuver successfully latches on. His arrival awakens Julien, the SADE (Artificial Intelligence) in control of the ship. With Julien's assistance, Alex begins repairs and reawakens the remainder of the crew.
Through the ensuing contact, Alex learns of a threat that endangers both the New Terrans and the Meridiens – an alien armada of silver ships with immense destructive ability. To face the threat, the two civilizations must work together, learning from each other and developing new defensive technologies. Each civilization will be forever changed by the other.
The Silver Ships is the first of a series of classic space operas, driven by both character and action. Scott Jucha's debut novel is well written, with a broad cast of complex characters. I very much enjoyed reading The Silver Ships and look forward to its sequel. Fans of Star Trek, Babylon 5, and other space operas will take pleasure in reading The Silver Ships.
I received a copy of The Silver Ships from the publisher and Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
