A fun way to learn about science! What a clever narrative to give kids a fun way to learn insect facts, so fun!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A definite recommendation for little ones who love bugs! Great read that my little one enjoyed. The illustrations were perfect and fun to look through while reading the book. It's informative and creatively put together to be relatable to today's young generation that's all about technology and social media. Encourages drawing, too!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book as an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of On the Air with Dr. Doodlebug. This book is so fun and educational! Kids will learn about different bugs and butterflies, and be excited about it with this adorable book. My only criticism is I wish it were longer. I hope there will be further installments!

This is actually such an awesome book, and I loved reading it! The author's idea to format this book as a radio show was so clever, and adds a lot of uniqueness to this book. It also made this book so much more fun to read because it was something fresh and new, which is always great. Additionally, in terms of graphic design, the pages were organized in such a way that it was easy to tell which character was speaking and when, which is not always the case for every book out there, so bravo for that! Adding onto that, the illustrator included so much detail on every page, which helps the reader stay fully engaged in the story. Lastly, since I have nothing bad to say about this book, the subtle puns included in the book and the mini messages with each character added depth and meaning to the book as a whole, which I loved seeing. Bravo!!
An easy to read graphic novel that will also teach kids about bugs. I enjoyed the radio show format. The graphics fit the story very well.

Taking a page from social media, talk radio, and youtube shows, Dr. Doodlebug gives information and advice to a variety of bugs who are interested in learning more about themselves. In the process, readers learn all about the secret lives of ants, stinkbugs, caterpillars, lightning bugs and more. The fun format offers a look at a show that uses multimedia (Dr. Doodlebug doodles his answers and displays them on a computer screen). For today's techy kids, this informative and humorous book will hit home.
Oh wow, what an amazing, fun book! As an animal ecologist (though not an entomologist) I love how this book makes basic facts of insect biology and ecology approachable and entertaining for young readers. This book will be a huge hit with scientists and the general public alike, especially those with kids, but even for adults. This is definitely on my shortlist of favorite science nonfiction books for children.
Some things I loved in particular:
* Illustrations: so much fun! And so much care was taken with detail. I found myself spending a lot of time looking around each scene to note all the small details -- many of which are super cute and fun if you spot them (the superhero snail sidekick with a mask around its head but angry-looking eyes on stalks had me laughing).
* The science presented as sketches in Dr. Doodlebug's notebook -- very neat! I love the vibes of nature journaling/field notebook that this gives.
* Instead of just telling the reader a bunch of facts, this is presented as an entertaining radio show where insect guests call in for help (in the form of a question or preconceived notion a kid might have about insect biology).
I recommend this book for kids and adults, but the prime target age group is probably elementary school age (around 6-10 years). I will absolutely be recommending this book to everyone I know with kids.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the eARC.
I seriously wish they had more non-fiction books like this when I was a kid. This book is so well done that it reads like a picture book with a fun and engaging story that you don't even realize you are learning science. The colors of the illustrations are so bright and fun and the pacing is just perfect. Highly recommend!

On the Air with Dr. Doodlebug is a fun radio show Q&A that combines humour, comic-style graphics, and bite-sized entomology. The book introduces young readers to concepts like metamorphosis and bioluminescence, while the question-and-answer structure fosters curiosity and models courteous explanation.
The book also demonstrates social-emotional learning by offering a safe space to ask questions, navigating peer interactions, and understanding the environmental and societal implications of behaviours. Presenting factual information in a friendly Q&A format encourages people to ask questions and consider the repercussions.
The artwork is bright, colourful, and comic book-style; drawings and panelling are used to support both jokes and factual explanations, making the pages visually appealing to children who are interested in facts.
I would recommend this book for both children and adults. It serves as an exciting introduction rather than an exhaustive reference. To get the most out of the text, it works well with adult instruction or brief follow-up activities that expand on the facts presented.

ON THE AIR WITH DR. DOODLEBUG features radio talk show host Dr. Doodlebug fielding a variety of questions from insect listeners including hungry caterpillars, smelly stinkbugs, and environmentally conscious lightning bugs. Dr. Doodlebug responds to the concerned callers in turn, sharing information that puts their minds at ease. Bold, colorful illustrations and diagrams “drawn” by Dr. Doodlebug support the content. A creative and fun take on the classic nonfiction question and answer format about a subject that is popular with young readers.
