This book made me want to move to Texas! simply put. I loved it

Lots of love, lust, family, and murder set in this little town in Texas. Good descriptions which brought the book to life, but also gave you a predictable way the book would end (well it was a romance so it always ends well for the man and woman). I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

Great story filled with twist, murder, mystery and love. Wylie's car broke down and ended up in a small town. He fell in love with Kennedy from the first time she gave him directions into town. The new relationship is threatened by a murders in town where clues lead to them. They have to prove their innocence before they become the next target. Recommended read. I enjoyed this story.

As always I want to thank Netgalley for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this honest review.

Well I finally found a book that I struggled to read. Now let me start by saying I did finish the book and waited to give it a chance even when at the beginning of it I wanted to throw it to one side and not do so. Here is the deal I think the idea that the author had with this story was a good one. I can see where she wanted to bring us a great suspenseful romance. My problem was with a few things that are triggers for me and my PTSD. So that made it very difficult to get through the book. Again though I can see the potential this book had to be fantastic, heck I was hooked on it thanks to the synopsis, there was a few things that I really struggled wrapping my brain around. At one point I believe I described it one of the girls as a bad red-neck story. Now let me clarify something, to me there is a big difference with being a country bumpkin who struggles, and a red-neck. When one of the characters describe another character as a smelly unwashed dirty bad breathed person in a run down home, yeah that doesn't sound like a country-bumpkin to me as so much as an ignorant dirty red-neck. I mean don't get me wrong I don't expect all characters to be good perfect people and can see how a character who is supposed to be not all there could be describing others, but yeah I didn't get such a great impression from these characters.

Now again this is something that is solely on me and should not reflect on the author, but if this type of thing bothers you I suggest staying away from this book. At one point there is a character in this book that is in love and sees nothing wrong with being with her step-dad or doing bad things to their sibling while the step-father watches and gets himself off, is just wrong to me... again this is a personal opinion and something I personally have a problem with. So if you don't see anything wrong with it then go for it. Also I want to stress that I completely understand why the author wrote these things, and it was a way to show the source of the depravity that the villains in this story came from, but I can't really read it. Again for me its a trigger into my PTSD

But because of these things I struggled with this book and have trouble giving it more than 2 1/2 kisses.

Happy Reading... Adri

** ARC received for an honest review ***

Texas Summer by Leslie Hachtel is a story filled with romance, suspense, murder, love, and secrets. The last thing writer Wylie Nichols expected to happen when his car broke down in a tiny little town is that he would meet a beautiful woman who may just be more trouble than she is worth.

Kennedy is a woman who has endured so much pain, betrayal, and disgust in her life she has begun to believe that everyone is right about her and she is the scum of the earth. However, Wylie doesn’t see it that way and “the immediate fire between them was almost palpable. Wylie drew in a breath, mesmerized, stumbled, then caught himself and continued forward, closing the distance. She raised her eyebrows, as if daring him to speak.”

When Kennedy’s sister Delie is found brutally murdered Wylie becomes an immediate suspect. Could this kind stranger really be capable of that kind of violence? Is this another case where Kennedy’s bad judgement surfaces? As the body count continues to rack up, it looks as though Wylie and Kennedy are the prime suspects. Did Wylie’s car really break down or is that just part of an elaborate plan him and Kennedy came up with?

Kennedy’s other sister Dolores has such contempt for Kennedy it is dripping from her mouth. She is convinced that Wylie and Kennedy are behind all of it to prevent Delie and Dolores from receiving money they all inherited. The mayor Freddie is also Kennedy’s stepfather and is breathing down Sheriff Miller’s neck to solve this crime immediately. As Sheriff Miller is trying to put the pieces together secrets begin to surface and he soon realizes that things aren’t always how they seem.

Why would this little town suddenly be riddled with violence and murder? Nothing will prepare the reader for what unfolds and secrets that come to light. Can Wylie and Kennedy survive the predicament they find themselves in? Are they really strangers who just fell in love or are they calculated murderer’s one step ahead of everyone else?

I think that Leslie Hachtel did a beautiful job of writing strong characters with a very complex history. The author took the time to give a lot of history on the characters which causes the reader to engage. I also enjoyed the fact that the author sort-of tricked us with the cover. I expected a mushy, sweet, romance between two quirky people and instead got one heck of a mystery with all kinds of things I never saw coming!

WARNING: This story contains some violent sexual situations, some vulgarity, and violence.

This was such a good story, but don't get fooled by the cover.

This story has a lot dark and gritty scenes; and the murders, just crazy.

I can't say much except that Wylie clearly didn't know what he was getting himself into when his car broke down and he lands in a small Texan town.

You will definitely get pulled in with all the drama, suspense and mystery going on in this little town.

Wylie’s car just died on him in the middle in the middle of nowhere. Wylie finally spotted a house, if you could call it that. Then a woman came out on to the porch of the house. Her name was Kennedy. As Wylie drew closer there was an immediate attraction. Kennedy told him that that the next town was about a quarter of a mile down the road. Also he wouldn’t be able to miss the garage. Wylie thought the town looked like something used for a Western movie. The mechanic told him that it would take a couple of days as he had to send away for the part for Wylie’s car. When Wylie found the diner in town, Kennedy was waiting tables there. A couple of locals made a nasty comment about Kennedy, Wylie reacted to it. Kennedy seemed to know the argument was about her and she came over to him. I enjoyed this story and plot. I really liked the characters especially Wylie and Kennedy and all the ins and outs they both went through. Quite simply it was just a good book. I recommend.
