Description

The only creative outlet that 38-year-old Lenni Serrano has is her journal, in which she writes that she feels “trapped.” She is at a loss to reconcile her youthful aspirations with the life she has actually lived. Once a passionate philosophy student and clay sculptor, she’s now bored with her routine life in Philadelphia as a hospital administrator; she’s also a wife to Aaron, whom she met in high school, and they have two children, now teenagers.

A chance meeting with a volatile and menacing biochemist named Carl in an evening class leads her to make questionable choices. Desperate to break her life’s tedium, she follows Carl to a new job, where she also meets his kind co-worker Richard. The ensuing spiral of events ends in tragedy and exacts a painful toll on herself and those closest to her.

Ultimately, Lenni and her husband, Aaron, must navigate the end of a twenty-year marriage that has balanced precariously on the contradictions of an enduring love and underlying incompatibility. A White Trail is a tale of love and loss, a struggle for self-knowledge, and in the end, acceptance.

Advance Praise

“Lenni’s love of both passion and comfort is relatable, as is the idea that shelving one’s dreams can come back to haunt you. Krantz… gives readers a protagonist to root for—one who finds herself torn between the life she’s created and the one she’s always thought she’d have. Krantz’s focus on her characters’ emotions gives the story an authentic feel, and the ending is surprising and satisfying. An adult coming-of-age story that puts a unique twist on a mid-life crisis.”

- Kirkus Reviews

"The characters in this novel are people: real, flawed, hurting. This made me sympathetic to them-even when they weren't on their best behavior. I believe everything that the author shows and tells us about them- because it all adds up, rings true. Everything that happens makes sense."

- Alison Hicks, Founder and Director, Greater Philadelphia Wordshop Studio

"With a delicate touch, A White Trail offers many emotionally moving moments, particularly between the two main characters, Lenni and Aaron. Lenni's visit to their house post-separation is one vivid example that I'll never forget!"

This was the first book by this author I've read, but it won't be the last. The premise of the story is what happens if you're married, but you're no longer "married" to each other, but living different seperate lives. I've identified with this novel, and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!
