Description

His past may have escaped his memory, but his future is looking bright!

Hugh Baxter, the twelfth Duke of Swynford, is one of the most powerful men in England. Then one night he is hit over the head by an unknown assailant and left for dead on the streets of London.

Adele Paulson is the daughter of an earl of dubious character, and after the death of her fiancé, she’s resigned herself to life as a spinster. But when she witnesses a man being thrown from a carriage one night, she decides to bring him into her home. When he comes to, he has no idea who he is.

Adele and the handsome stranger begin to fall for each other as they search for his identity. A news story about the missing Duke of Swynford leads Adele to connect that her stranger and the duke are one and the same. But as Hugh begins to recover his memories, he does not want to leave Adele behind. Although everyone disapproves of their relationship—including his mother and his closest friends—Hugh is determined to have Adele as his wife.

But before they can settle into their life of married bliss, Hugh must also find who wants him dead.

I was hooked from the first page and was invested in what was happening in this historical romance going on in this. It had that element that I was looking for and was engaged with the characters of this storyline. Kate McMurray wrote this well and left me wanting to read more from the author and how this was told in the overall genre. It was a strong opener to the Night Fire Club series and enjoyed the Regency element to this and how the characters just worked.

I absolutely loved I Never Forget a Duke! From the very first page, it swept me away with its charm, humor, and heart. Kate McMurray created characters that felt so real and relatable, and I couldn’t help but root for them the whole way through. The romance was both tender and exciting, with just the right mix of banter and deep emotional connection. I especially loved how the story balanced the glitter of a historical setting with genuine, heartfelt moments.

Truly enjoyed! I found the plot exciting and the romance was super romantic.

I liked the set up of the story a lot. It starts with action which immediately grabs your attention, and then you can't put the book down. I found the characters, romance and mystery to be equally entertaining. I liked that Adele is the savior here and Hugh is the damsel in distress. It's a nice spin on the trope and it worked well here. Plus there's the caretaking trope which I always like because it allows the characters to slow down and build intimacy.

Hugh and Adele have a wonderful romance. It's a slow burn but the journey getting there is worth it. They fall in love slowly and it's super lovely. Their romance is a bit forbidden too since there is a class difference between them. It adds a little drama to the romance to keep it interesting.

The mystery was well done too. Hugh has amnesia after being attacked. As a result, he is trying to regain his memory while also figuring out who wants him dead. The build up to the reveal was clever and satisfying.

I enjoyed this a lot! Would recommend. Cannot wait for more books in the series.
