Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of Never Have I Ever comes a chilling story of sisters and revenge.

Revenge...It's all relative.

Born three minutes apart, Penny and Nix Albright grew up doing everything together, close as only twins can be. But when Nix dies in a tragic accident soon after college, she leaves behind a cryptic voicemail that has Penny guilt-ridden and desperate for justice.

Five Years Later

Penny has found new purpose as a rookie cop. She’s working to fulfill Nix’s dream of making the world a safer place, but following that dream becomes a nightmare when she’s called to her first murder scene. When she sees the victim, she knows him instantly. It’s Danny Bowery—one of three men she’s long blamed for Nix’s death—splayed in a pool of blood outside a posh Atlanta shopping center, almost as if she’d wished it so.

Stunned, Penny steps away to catch her breath and discovers a blonde in blood-drenched clothes gripping a box cutter. Before Penny can arrest her, the woman reveals that Bowery’s murder is part of a larger story that is far from over. A story about sisters. And with that, the killer disappears.

Now, Penny will stop at nothing to pursue this dangerous woman and learn why she’s avenging Nix’s death. The deeper she dives into the mystery, the less clear it becomes who is hunting whom in this captivating page-turner of hidden motives and deadly consequences.

I have read every Joshilyn Jackson book and loved them all, but I think this is her best one, yet. Penny Albright is a character that will stay with me for a long time. Not just because she is part of a heart pounding, twisty mystery/thriller, but also because I think she is really a snapshot of all of us. Through her thoughts and actions, I glimpsed good and bad, guilt, empathy, savage joy and kindness all warring in her soul. The rest of the characters in the novel are also compelling and complicated. The novel starts out with a steady beat that builds and builds until you are at the top of a roller coaster then shoots you down and twists you up in a way you never saw coming. I finished it in two sessions because I couldn't put it down. It an edge of your seat, blow your socks off look into human beings. Read it! You will love it!

This author consistently delivers deep characters, wit, and compelling plots, and this novel is no exception. I always go into her novels with high expectations and this did not disappoint. This is not your boilerplate mystery novel--the characters are so interesting and the plot so fast paced that you will devour this novel!

Absolutely loved this story and couldn't put the book down. A serial killer seems to be on the loose, targeting men who ruined Penny's sister's life. As a new police officer, she's conflicted on whether she pursues the killer or stays out of their way. Would highly recommend!

Just finished Missing Sister by Joshilyn Jackson and wow, this one had me hooked from page one! Penny and Nix’s twin bond is written so vividly that I felt their closeness even after Nix was gone, which made the grief and guilt Penny carries really hit hard. Penny is a rookie cop who stumbles into a murder that ties straight back to her sister’s death. I loved how twisty it got from there, and every time I thought I knew who was in control, the story flipped it around! I love how personal the revenge thread felt. It’s not just a crime story, but messy, emotional, and full of that push pull between justice and obsession. If you like thrillers with complex family ties, revenge plots, and crazy twists, this is one to bump to the top of your list!

This was the best thriller I've read in awhile! I was completely invested from the first page. Rookie cop Penny Albright realizes during during a murder investigation that someone is killing the men who sent her twin sister down a ruinous path that ended in her death as an addict. Penny is 26 and lost without her fiery, bold twin Nix, and looking for meaning as an officer of the law, but what she finds within herself is a deep relief that these men are being murdered. I don't want to spoil anything else, but there are so many layers and complexities to this novel, and Penny's voice is unique and dryly funny and heartbreakingly sad all at once. The author examines the dynamics of victims and criminals, perspective in storytelling, and all the shades of morality. There are loads of twists in the last third of the book that are very well done without getting too out of hand. I loved every page, and I really hope to see a sequel at some point!

This book starts with a bang, Penny a rookie cop gets called to a brutal murder. The victim is one of the 3 men she blames for her sister’s death. What Penny does next results in a game of cat and mouse. This was a story of sisterhood, family, and revenge.

The last half of the book took me from liking it to loving it. It was fast-paced with twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I loved the ending and am hoping it leaves the door open for another book.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I was hooked from the first page and finished the book within 24 hours. Penny and her family are well drawn characters in short strokes. The action comes in pretty quickly and doesn't let up. There are twists starting in chapter two, and I really didn't see them or the end coming until Penny did. I am eager to read more of Joshilyn Jackson's books because this was such an enjoyable read.
