Description

The crowd sees chemistry. Only they remember the heartbreak.

Savannah Williams walked away from the squared circle—and from him—over two years ago. She went from being the top women’s wrestler and headlining the biggest shows at Elite Wrestling Entertainment to coaching high school cheerleaders in the blink of an eye. Now, she’s back and being forced to stand side by side with the man who broke her heart.

After being the face of the company for over ten years, John Brooks is the first thing most people think of when they think of pro-wrestling. The second thing that comes to mind is usually Brooks Taylor and Savvy Skye, the ultimate power couple of the EWE. John has never forgotten the day Savannah walked out the door. He never thought he’d see her again—and he certainly never thought she’d return as his tag team partner to fight the company’s newest “it” couple thirsting for recognition.

They say it’s just business—a friend helping out another friend, reigniting a fan-favorite duo meant to stir up nostalgia and put asses in seats—but everyone can see the tension between them is anything but pretend. You can’t fake that kind of chemistry.

As they fight to reclaim their places at the top, the lines between performance and reality begin to blur, but are they ready for the truth to come out?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5/5)

This was such a fun read! The mix of second-chance romance and the pro-wrestling world hooked me right away—it felt like WWE drama but with so much more heart. Savannah and John’s chemistry is undeniable, and I loved how their history added so much tension to every scene.

The side characters were amazing too—Rae and Brody totally stole my heart, and I need their book ASAP! This was my first wrestling romance, and now I know it definitely won’t be my last. Jensen Parker built a world and characters I could happily keep reading about forever.

I grew up watching wrestling with my brother which is why I was drawn to this book. It was a little hard to put down. This was a great book to read. Savannah and John are wrestlers and he is one of the top athletes in the company EWE. They are set up as a storyline and starts falling for each other. At some point, they have some growing to do towards the end of the book but eventually get their HEA.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read and share my thoughts.

This book was presented as a contemporary sports second chance romance so I was excited to read it. I know nothing about the wrestling world that the book is set in and I think that made the book an even bigger win for me. At times the book read like a general fiction as you were immersed in wrestling matches and learning about side characters story lines.

I really enjoyed how the “second chance” aspect was tackled. Instead of dual timelines or feeling like you were missing information, you start at the beginning and travel through 11 years with the main characters. Sometimes a the next chapter is one day later, sometimes it’s 1 year later depending on character arcs. 11 years is a long time to watch people fall in love, fall apart, and refind each other so it didn’t feel like a rushed third act break-up. (In fact, my one negative was that the end read as a slower pace than the rest of the book).

Overall, I enjoyed this book (primarily for the FMC’s identity growth and the storytelling method the author used).

** this book was received as an ARC from Netgalley, the review is my honest opinions

I don't think I've ever read a wresting romance, especially where both characters are wrestlers. The wrestling and the second chance romance made me super intrigued to pick this up.

Overall, I liked this. I found the wrestling world really interesting and well written. Parker clearly knows about the sport and what it takes to succeed in it. It was cool to see the rise and fall of Savannah's career. As someone who is not a spectator of the sport, I found this easy to understand.

Savannah and John were great characters. Very fleshed out and complex. I found both of them to be interesting. I liked that we got to see their relationship (the wrestling duo and romance) play out before we jumped into the present. I thought this helped a lot in establishing their relationship and why there is so much tension between them. If you love angst, this couple delivers it in spades. My angst loving heart was living for this couple. The romance really worked for me. We get to see these two work through their issues and rekindle their romance. The romance felt mature and realistic. The chemistry between them was palpable and I was waiting for one of them to snap. The steamy scenes were fantastically written and will leave you blushing.

I think my one complaint is that this is a bit long (almost 600 pages!).

I enjoyed the characters and their romance, plus the wrestling world was a great setting. If you love sports romances, second chance and angsty reads, I would give this one a try.
