Description
College is rough, but being possessed by a vengeful spirit who wants you to murder your old boss? That’s next-level.
Freshman year was supposed to be a fresh start. But between his party-animal roommate, mounting anxiety, and a creepy black vulture that keeps showing up at the worst possible times, he’s barely keeping it together.
Then the nightmares begin. The voices. The blackouts. And soon, he’s not sure if the darkness closing in is stress… or something else entirely. Something old. Something angry. Something that wants revenge and has chosen him to deliver it.
With his mind slipping, his only hope is a friend who refuses to give up on him… even when the person she’s fighting to save might already be gone.

"Something wicked this way comes".
What a fantastic, pulse pounding thriller with the right amount of horror and that extra creep factor to keep me glued to the storyline. When college student David Everest arrives at school, goes to parties with his deadbeat, party going and troublesome room mate and attends a bonfire, a dark entity enters his body and begins to change him and not for the better.
The overall possession of David Everest throughout the story along with the vultures outside his window added to the suspense of the plot and the setting was perfectly executed for this thriller.
In terms of characters I feel they all added to the story and the twist at the crux of the story was so unexpected and shocking that it made my skin crawl- and in a good way. A thoroughly immersive and unsettling yet enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future.
Thankyou to Net galley and the publisher for an arc of this amazing book.

Very scary storyline, characters were well written, plot twist was unexpected and very interesting. Perfect story for the fall season. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
I really enjoyed Campus of Shadows even though it is not a book I normally would pick up. It packs some punches right in the very beginning. I loved Dave Everest because he too suffers with a learning disability and Jo does a great job at writing it so well. This book was so unique and so cleverly written. It was a crazy and emotionally charged ride of tension filled suspense. Thanks to my partners Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse, Jo Loveday and Book Sirens for the free copy of Campus of Shadows.

I had a lot of fun with this book. I really like the idea of horror books set on a college campus that aren't basic slasher plots, and this book was pretty much what I was looking for. It was an interesting mix of fun college partying and more serious elements, that got progressively darker and darker as the story progressed.
Dave was such a depressing character to follow at times, but he felt well written and vivid. I was rooting for him, even when he did frustratingly dumb things.
The dyscalculia stuff added a lot of depth to his character. I had never heard of it before and I was intrigued by it.
I wish some scenes had been a bit slower. There were a few where characters were rapid fire showing up and saying hi and then leaving, and i didnt really get a sense of what was going in, but it was not a big deal.
Overall i had a blast reading it, and wish i could find more college horror books like this
Freshman Year Just Got Freaky
College drama is wild enough, but Campus of Shadows cranks it up with creepy vultures, blackout moments, and a possession twist that had me hopelessly hooked!
Campus of Shadows is a dark, twisty psychological thriller that pulls you straight into the chaos of freshman year gone terribly wrong. David Everest’s move to college should be the start of something great, but instead he finds himself tangled in nightmares, sinister forces, and a roommate who’s trouble from the start. What really hooked me was how real the stress and anxiety felt—mixed with the chilling creep of something much darker lurking around the edges. It kept me turning pages late into the night, and I honestly enjoyed every second of that uneasy, eerie ride.
Hook me with college parties and creepy vultures, and I’m all in! Campus of Shadows takes the whole “freshman year stress” thing and cranks it up with blackouts, possession, and a roommate you wouldn’t trust to water your plants. I read it in one sitting because I had to know—was David losing it, or was something truly evil moving in? It’s fast, freaky, and so much fun to read. Trust me, this book will mess with your head in the best way possible. 🦉
