I had not read Feely's first book but did not need to . THis is a well written tale of vineyards, wine and France which I enjoyed very much. Recommend to those interested in those subjects or to anyone else for that matter! I'll look for more from this author.

In this second book by Feely we find the family struggling with the demands of their vineyard, business, and family in France. As the book opens they are finishing their third harvest and the business is still shaky. By the end of the book, the business has expanded, its in better shape, and the future holds great promise.

The Feely vineyard was converted from a conventional farm to an organic and biodynamic one and the author makes strong and impassioned cases for this kind of agriculture throughout. Most of the time, though, the message doesn't get in the way of the story, which is told with grace and humor.

Feely's adventures on their road are full of colorful characters, and travels in France and California that are not always in the best of circumstances. We also see the stresses of new construction, rigorous certification exams, and running a small business and vineyard.

While I don't necessarily agree with her quick dismissal of much in the California Wine Country where I live, the book is charming and well worth reading.

While this is an interesting story of a couple running a vineyard in France, I found it a little on the dry side. There was a lot of "shop talk" and I found myself skimming through it. I think someone with a serious interest in opening a vineyard would enjoy this book, but for me it was just so-so.

Savings Our Skins is the next in this Vineyard series. This books stands alone so it is not necessary to read the previous book to enjoy and follow their story. This is a delightful story of France, vineyard harvesting and family. The family is struggling with all aspects of owning a vineyard and that is what I like about this book. It is real and the author writes from a place of reality for an agricultural enterprise. This is a very lovely story and a enjoyable reading experience. of course the location is a star of the story and the descriptions of the land are simply magnificent. I highly recommend Saving Our Skins for your reading pleasure. Thank you for the advance reading copy .
