A boy’s innovative genius proves that machines can never replace writers in this picture book about creativity, imagination, and the writing process
I need more books. I just can’t get enough. But how does one make a book? I’ve seen books at the school and the library. How do they get their books? They must use a book-making machine.
What happens when a book-loving child can’t get books fast enough? He’ll build a machine that will produce an entire library, of course! With a doohickey here and a whatchamacallit there, he puts his book machine together and waits for the books to pop out . . . and waits . . . and waits. After checking to make sure there wasn’t a dragon inside the machine gobbling up all his books, he deduces that he must write his own story.
Combining science with art and writing, The Book Machine introduces kids to creativity and critical thinking, teaching them to solve problems and utilize all their talents in order to reach their goals. With adorable illustrations that spark the imagination, every page will have kids falling in love with making ideas come to life. And a list of helpful, easy-to-follow steps at the end will walk kids through the writing process, encouraging them to begin writing their own stories with the book machines built right inside of them.

“You have your own book machine built right inside of you too. What books will you make?”
The Book Machine is a wonderful picture book about a child who loves books so much that he decides to try to make his own. It encourages imagination, trial and error, and creativity. If I’d read it as a kid, it definitely would’ve made me want to go create my own book as soon as I was done reading this one! And it is beautifully illustrated too :)
A story about a little boy that loves books and reading. He loves books so much he makes a book machine so he can read as much as he wants. The little boy soon realizes he has nothing to fuel his machine so he will have to come up with the story. This is a gorgeous book full of great ideas. The book also offers tips on how to write your own story. This book is perfect for a classroom, library project, or a homeschooler to get inspiration to create their own book.
The Book Machine by Laurie Duersch spoke to my heart. This is a story for book lovers of all ages. The opening line, 'I need more books.' is something many of us think. I love how this book sparks creativity with young scholars and encourage readers to use their imagination. I also found the build your own story steps at the conclusion of the book to be a great addition. This gives readers a great foundation to write their own stories. I enjoyed reading this book.
I absolutely love this book. It just me smile to see this little kid be so excited for reading and having an imagination. The coloring and illustrations were beautiful. I think this book would be so cute for little readers to have to show that books are so much fun and a journey. I definitely would buy this for my little kiddos to showcase how amazing reading is and books are. What a great and cute read!

I felt like the kid in this book deep in my heart. I need more books. They make more books, like a book machine. "You have your own book machine built right inside of you".
I read this book with my six year old - it has a really great blend of words for those who are reading above most kindergarten books and heading more towards the first grade reading level. The playful words like “doohickey” and “whatchamacallit” were especially fun for my son to sound out! This book had him giggling out loud and actually motivated him to want to write a story of his own about caterpillars and foxes.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book! 💕📚

A young child dreams of having more books and decides to build their very own book-making machine… but at first, it doesn’t quite work. With a little persistence (and a touch of magic 💫), things start to change—and the best part is, readers are invited to join in and make the magic happen too!
This story is full of creativity, determination, and a love of books that will absolutely resonate with young readers. ❤️📖
Honestly, any book-loving child needs this one—and elementary classrooms should have it on their shelves ASAP! 🍎✨ It’s perfect for sparking imagination and encouraging kids to see themselves as creators of stories.

This was such a great picture book and the illustrations where so cute. This is about a boy who loves books so much that he invented a machine to make him new books when he realizes that the machine can’t think up new books that he has to use his own imagination to make new stories. Just really cute and a great read for kids who love books and there is fun tips in the back about how to write your own story. Thanks to Familius and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
