this book had my heart in a vice for so many reasons. should i be rooting for these two? who knows. in this book world that Angela has built here for us then yes yes yes i was rooting for them every single second of the way and just wanted them to get their happy ever after and for their to be an epilogue of them 40 years later all old and happy. ok? ok!??? so yes Angela might just have done a good job of making me fall for the pair of these two both as individuals and together.
there was so much raw emotion and pain within this book. on both sides really. and their loves and slow build had all this which made it more impactful and with added suspense to the mix too.
the way the characters are bought to life and given their own stories was just wonderful. it bought them to life leaping and moving across the pages for me. i actually felt for them. and when they felt things it felt real to me too.
Frankie had my whole heart. i wanted to scoop her up and protect her myself! this wasn't because she was pitiful or weak. oh no. she was one hell of a strength within a woman. but she just needed love, real love and care. watching her try to allow this or move forward really had me emotional at points.
Rhett. ok. you all know exactly what im going to say about Rhett. but in order to know this you just need to all go and read this book. then all i need to leave is blank space for us all to fill in how we feel about this man haha. promise you it will all be the same kind of swoon. he fits the role of his character to perfection. this hardened hero. this protector. but also another someone who actually just needed a real kind of love and care.
its almost like they were made for each other.
the trouble is when i want two people to come together so much is that my real fear and angst that they wont! could one day an author turn this on its head, ruin the world of romances and not allow the couple to get together!? and we all think it wont happen but trust me i read one such book with this included just this week and it broke a little of my decades old romance book lovers heart... so yeh, now im more cautious and i shouldn't be this cautious at my old age people!
i loved this book. couldn't get enough. the type of book where you are tense reading it and tense to get back to it anytime you might dare to step away from it. so then i just read it all. it was the only fix to my fix.
