Whether you love SciFi or not, you will like this book. In a world where love is not allowed, two people find love and try to bridge the gap between worlds. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Holy Cow! I loved loved loved this book! I can't think of one thing bad about this book to say. It is unique and intense. It holds you in suspense about what will happen next! I love that everything is against Aecker and Opel but they still fight. In a world were all feelings are flaws that can get you killed, they find each other and fight to hold on! I can't wait for the second book of the Aftershock series. I hope this series gets turned into a movie! It would be so amazing!
If you loved Hunger games or divergent you will love this! Main characters Aecker and Opel go through mass devastation and losses one couldn't imagine I will not be giving up too much about their journey but surely its one you don't want to miss! Trust me this could be a movie its beyond the 5 stars I am allowed to give!!! Read it buy it now!
I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis from NetGalley.com
There were aspects of this book that I really liked and others that I feel could have used some more attention. The descriptive writing of the book was done very well and made for an enjoyable read. However, I strongly feel that the romance of the book was too rushed.
To further elaborate, I was sucked into the book by the first paragraph because of how vivid the descriptive writing was on what the character was going through. I felt like I was there, I understood the kind of utter agony the poor woman was going through in the first several paragraphs. Unfortunately not long after said character got doe-eyed about a guy she didn’t know while concurrently she couldn’t even remember who she was herself.
Books often struggle with going into too much unnecessary detail to begin with or too little, but there’s usually a graceful cushion with science fiction writings due to the very nature of the material, how peculiar and original it so often is. The romance in the book wold have prospered more if the readers were given the chance to know the two in said romance separately before they met one another. Not only would it have given the readers a chance to gage at their personalities and get a feel for what kind of people they are individually, but it would also be a good place to start developing the scenery around them. Essentially just a couple of chapters to build tension upon their meeting.
While I feel the romance was a bit too fast paced because the characters were just placed together at the beginning of the book, it was beyond reproach how such a daring topic was explored creatively and a cohesive story was weaved from it.
Overall for me this book teeters between 3.5 to 4 stars, though since Goodreads doesn’t allow halves, either way it would round up to 4 stars. The detailed, descriptive writing was done eloquently in my opinion, but would have recommended a little tinkering with building up hype for the two core characters, and in turn their romance as well.
Dystopian books are a huge favorite of mine. Simply put because it's interesting all the different takes for a society. This one love is a crime. I mean that alone should make the would be reader squirming in their seat excited, and intrigued. Opel and Aecker are the main characters and I loved them dearly. You take this journey with them that's so helpless you can't help but cheer along with them in hopes things work out.i very much will pick up the next installment for this series.
Love Sets Free Never Forget
This was an interesting read. I love dystopian novels but i’m always left wanting in the last installment. This is the first and the setting is all set I really enjoyed the premise of us destroying ourselves. This new world has completely eradicated what was once whole and new. People have been pushed into cages and others have been bombarded with poison there is no future for this world. I love the gruesome details of this “what if” of what could happen when we bomb ourselves. There are always those that rise to “fix” what we have destroyed. I enjoyed the way the author sets all the characters up in the beginning and leads us through a maze to figure out what everyones part truly means.
The Story, Opel is lost and she doesn’t have any memories but something about Aecker pulls at her heart. No one knows who or what she is but Aecker has feelings for her from a time before. Opel is hunted and she doesn’t know why. Everyone is against her even though she doesn't know why. These two will fight for each other to be together and to figure out how to be together and how to piece together this broken world. Aecker has a legacy left to him and he has to figure out how to keep everyone safe. There are people in power who will imprison him and take Opel but he will do everything in his ability to keep her and those he loves safe.
The Characters, Aecker is strong and has a legacy he needs to continue. He knows Opel from before her memory loss and he is determined to keep her safe. Although this is told in alternating persons I feel as though I have much to learn about this wonderful person I have come to care for. Opel, okay so we know like close to negatives about her but as the story progresses we learn more and more bit by bit. I look forward to seeing her transformation!!!
The End, wow can someone say explosion? Explosion…there are several shocking things that occur. We meet some new people and come across some we already know all too well. There were still plenty of shocking surprises and get ready for a bit of a cliffy one. You've been warned. I look forward to the next…where I hope to learn more, MORE! I want to know all about the demise I want to know what will happen. I WANT I Want I WANT!!!!!
My Rating
4.0 Crazy new world where MORALS are WHAT IS THAT?!!! Is he really going back for her? EW WHAT?! Who is my daddy…Metal WHAT…Where is my Brother…WHAT THE WHAT BOOM filled stars!
