Praise for The Blacksmith, Book One of the Tales From the Graveyard series:

"The Blacksmith by Susan Shultz is like Dexter with a feminine twist gone dark. Ainsley feeds her dead heart by killing men and eating theirs. Who run the world? Girls. And their apparently insatiable desire for man-flesh. A fun holiday read!" —Nerdist.com

"It wasn't until I read The Blacksmith by Susan Shultz that I thought about a different type of 'scary story.'…It relies on legitimate fears of loss and the flaws in human nature to make you feel uncomfortable. Don't misunderstand—if you like blood, ghosts, and socipaths, The Blacksmith has that for you." —Volumes of Words

I received this as an arc from net galley in exchange for an honest review. In a graveyard in a little new England town, there is a house on a hill. It's garden is decorated with gravestones. The house has stood for ages now, and occupants have come and gone. But those who died there never leave. They just watch and wait. Wow. Absolutely fantastic read. I could not put it down. I knew from page one it would be hard to put down. Read in 2 settings. I loved the story and the characters. This book was different as it was the same story but each book was about a different character. I would highly recommend this book. 5 * although I would have given more if I could. Absolutely fantastic. You will not be disappointed.

Susan Shultz hauntingly tales is the perfect book to pick up during the Halloween season.

The Blacksmith (story 1)
The Blacksmith is a dark and alluring tale. The way it weaves its story, it grabs you, won't let you go. Ainsley, the librarian, the keeper of the cemetery, has a dark secret, one she can't tell. The Blacksmith helps her, he's the only one who is there for her. If only she could let Sam in, but that isn't possible. He wouldn't understand. I really enjoyed this story, the ending was shocking, I didn't think it would end that way. Such a good story.

Jessie (story 2)
In The Blacksmith, Ainsley introduced us to Jessie and the babies grave, with a little backstory. Now we get to hear Jessies story, and if it doesn't pull on your heartstrings. It dark with an underlying kinda love story.

Dirt (story 3)
Lila the Journalist, feels there is more to the story than what everyone else is writing. There was more to Ainsley, than just the murderous woman. Find a journal will set Lila on a different journey then she ever thought of.

Sam (story 4)
Sam has been living with regret since Ainsley killed herself. He is back at the house it all started at, but he's not alone, someone is waiting.

Tales From The Graveyard was a good, dark, haunting story. Each story was different, but had the same occurrence, Ainsley. I really enjoyed the way Susan writes... it's dark, fits with her stories.

I read part 1 of the series (The Blacksmith) in December 2014 and absolutely loved the dark, disturbing and twisted tale. So, naturally, when I saw the opportunity to read the entire series at once I went for it. I was not disappointed.

I like everything about this series. The way the stories are written, the story line, the characters and how everything is connected. As far as short stories go, this is top notch. This is a perfect spooky, Halloween read. Very much recommended.

REVIEW: TALES FROM THE GRAVEYARD by Susan Schultz

I loved the subtlety of horror in these tales. Each individual tale is a story in itself, leading up to a fine denouement; and the collection also builds upon itself, creating a seamlessness of impending, then realized, horror. I would gladly read any work from this fine author.
