Description

Book Two in the USA Today bestselling Sunset Cove series.

“Second chances, old flames, and startling new revelations combine to form a story filled with faith, trial, forgiveness, and redemption. Crack the cover and step in, but beware—Mermaid Moon is harboring secrets that will keep you guessing.” Lisa Wingate, New York Times bestselling author of Before We Were Yours

Mallory’s mother died fifteen years ago. But her father’s last words on the phone were unmistakable: “Find . . . mother.”

Shame and confusion have kept Mallory Davis from her home for the last fifteen years, but when her dad mysteriously dies on his mail boat route, she doesn’t have any choice but to go back to Mermaid Point.

Mallory believes her father was murdered and childhood sweetheart Kevin O’Connor, game warden in Downeast Maine, confirms her suspicions. But Kevin is wary of helping Mallory in her search. She broke his heart and left—without a word—years ago.

When Mallory begins receiving threats on her own life—and her beloved teenage daughter, Haylie—their search intensifies. There’s a tangled web within the supposed murder, and it involves much more than what meets the eye.

As answers begin to fall into place, Mallory realizes her search is about more than finding her father’s killer—it is also about finding herself again . . . and possibly about healing what was broken so long ago with Kevin. She just has to stay alive long enough to put all the pieces together.

“Coble second Sunset Cove novel takes readers on another exciting journey. The game of cat and mouse keeps you involved in the intrigue, with the romantic tension between Mallory and Kevin provides just the right counterbalance.” —RT Book Reviews

Mallory hasn’t been home in a long time, but the death of her father brings her back to Maine. Her mother died 15 years earlier, but her father’s last words implored her to find her mother. Stymied, she begins to look into her father’s death and begins to believe he was murdered. The fact is confirmed by game warden Kevin O’Connor, her childhood boyfriend. She needs his help to determine what happened to her father and what his last cryptic words meant. Kevin is leery of getting to close and getting his heart broken again, but when Mallory and her teenage daughter are threatened, he can’t stand idly by. This was a well written, thoughtful mystery with strong and interesting characters

I have read a good bunch of Colleen Coble’s writing, so I know what to expect when I approach any of her romantic suspense. For the most part, I truly enjoy her unique stories with their unique settings. Not one of her series really ever takes place in the same town, which I truly enjoy. As for Coble’s second installment in her A Sunset Cove Novel series, I enjoyed the mystery.

I enjoy stories in series that bring back characters that I have come to know and enjoy spending time with in earlier books. In the first book in this series, The Inn at Ocean’s Edge, I got to understand and empathize with Claire. She comes back in this second book and is a friend of our newest heroine Mallory. A great way for a writer to keep my attention is to bring back familiar characters and have them interact with the new characters.

As for the conflict and romance, it wasn’t such a high demand for suspense or mystery. The romance plays a huge part of the story with a little bit of suspense thrown in to keep the reader’s guessing. Following the normal protocol for a romance book, I was pretty sure that Mallory and Kevin would overcome the struggles that kept them apart and find a way to move onto their future together. Totally predictable. On the other hand, the suspense part got vamped up in the last fifty pages of the book and kept me turning the pages, wanting to understand the reasoning behind the bad person’s actions. Totally a unique idea. Really liked it.

As for the writing, Coble does an excellent job at describing and inviting her readers into the setting with her use of imagery and descriptive words. I really felt like I have gone back and visited a favorite family vacation spot that I can’t wait to return to every summer. The even amount of prose and dialogue keeps the story moving at a quick pace, allowing me to flip through the story pretty rapidly. I really had a hard time putting down the book.

True to a great mystery, Colleen Coble latest mystery, Mermaid Moon, kept my attention as the sparks and danger flew across the pages, inviting me to return once more to Sunset Cove. I really can’t wait for the next book to come out.

I received a complimentary copy of Mermaid Moon from Thomas Nelson and the opinions stated are all my own.

'Mermaid Moon' by Colleen Coble, is the second in a series, of which this is the first I have read. I think it would be beneficial to read the books in order, as there are a multitude of characters, that seem to flow through these books. However it is not vital to have read book 1, to feel fulfilled with this book. This story is full of suspense, with continual twists and turns, that you will find yourself surprised, and possibly questioning your predictions as you go through each chapter. Just enough romance to please those that want a little more from a murder mystery. She mentioned my favourite author, Denise Hunter, which added a little extra happiness for me! This story follows the return of Mallory Davis to her hometown after she receives a distressing phone call from her father. Her path reconnects her with old flame Kevin O'Connor, and this journey of danger ensues.

Thank you to Netgalley & Thomas Nelson Publishing for the advanced reading copy. Fully recommend, and I look forward to more from this author!

Colleen Coble's new book is about second chances and forgiveness—especially forgiveness of oneself. Mallory left her hometown about 15 years ago and took a lot of guilt with her that she couldn't get rid of in another town. When her father dies, she returns to her hometown and reconnects with her ex-boyfriend, Kevin, and they find out that their feelings for one another didn't disappear over the years.
There is a mystery around Mallory's adoption and the deaths of her adoptive parents and now she and her daughter are being threatened. As always Coble delivers at the last minute and things didn't exactly go as I expected. An intriguing romantic suspense that will keep you interested all along the way!

Mermaid Moon is the second in the series Sunset Cove. When you pick up and read a Colleen Coble novel you come to expect that it will be suspenseful and full of twists and this book did not disappoint. The book caught my interest from the first few pages when Mallory's father is found murdered on his boat. Mallory returns to the town and immediately her life and those she loves is in danger. She reconnects with a Kevin, a former boyfriend from her past. They have a painful history that they have to work through. He helps her in her quest to find out the truth and in the meantime old hurts are healed. I loved that part of the story and how it unfolded.

The theme of this book is second chances. I loved how Mallory and Kevin were able to work out their problem and got the opportunity for a second chance. There is some other characters who had second chances but to mention them would be giving away too much of the story line.

I loved the suspense and mystery in the story. I did not know who to suspect was behind all this until near the end. Sometimes you suspect one person and it turns out not to be the case. I like it when the author writes the story so well that you don't know who to suspect.

Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for providing me a copy of the novel to preview. Mermaid Moon is due to be released January 12, 2016.

I absolutely loved "Mermaid Moon," Colleen Coble's latest novel. This book is full or suspense and romance just like the previous novel in this series. Mallory returns home to the place that she has avoided for several years after the death of her father. This is just the very surface of the story and the journey home. The twisted web throughout this story held my attention and I did not want to stop reading once I had started. I enjoyed the characters and their relationships, including Mallory and her daughter and Mallory and Kevin. This is an excellent read that I would highly recommend to romantic suspense fans.

Great book! I couldn't put it down- loved Colleen Coble's writing. I will be reading the other books in this series.

"Mermaid Moon" by Colleen Coble is mystery novel that starts with Mallory Davis getting a weird phone call from her dad and then a phone call that her dad has been found dead. Colleen Coble is an excellent writer, this mystery novel really showed it. A lot of the times when I thought the mystery was going one way it would twist and go another way. I just could not put this book down as I was wanting to find out the mystery's answers. Without giving away a lot of the story I will say we found out a lot about Mallory's story from her youth and her ex-fiancee from her past Kevin who is a game warden. Their story was so interesting even though there was a bit of romance in the story it was not the normal syrupy not reality type. The only part I would have liked to see more of was more of the story with Kevin's parents. Even without more of that part I still think this a very good book and highly recommend it.

I was given this book from Net Galley for my honest review and was not required to give a positive review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Well crafted, fast paced with engaging characters and intertwined plot. So much love for this book. Equal parts romance and suspense, and I enjoyed that the plot was believable without being over-the-top. Not too violent, but enough murder to satisfy my appetite and yet tastefully handled in a way where someone more sensitive to the subject shouldn't be frightened or offended. Love how the character's pasts all weave together, but I refrain from saying more as spoilers are utterly awful! :) GO BUY THIS!

This is the first Colleen Coble book I've read & am now a new fan. This book was the second in the Sunset Cove series but can easily be read as a stand alone. The mystery aspect of the novel was very well executed & most parts kept me guessing until the end. I think the best part of the book was the overall theme of forgiveness, forgiveness of others, yourself, the experiences life brings, family, & the grace of second chances.

The second in the series and this will not spoil book number one as it takes place in the same small town, but centers around a different person in town. The original characters from the first book make appearances, but aren't the focus.

Audra's gets a strange call from her father to say find her mother but her mother passed away years ago, so she returns home to take on the task and gets swept up into a bigger mystery then she ever could have imagined.

Again the characters in this book were intriguing and I kept wanting more and more. I loved how there was some full on romance in this one. It didn't seem forced and worked within the bigger mystery.

Another great mystery that I couldn't put down - don't pick this one up unless you have a good day or two to devour it!

It seems that my Kindle is suddenly flooded with Colleen Coble’s books and I’m not complaining at all. You’ll be seeing a lot of reviews of her work coming up here in the next month. She does a fine job of writing romantic suspense!

This is book 2 in the Sunset Cove series. I’m not reading them in the right order – the first one is The Inn At Ocean’s Edge, which I’m reading presently – however, each story is complete in itself.

Let me tell you that like the author’s Sea Grass Pier that I read and reviewed a while back, Mermaid Moon had me completely absorbed and I didn’t welcome interruptions to my reading of it! The plot was fantastic and the underlying story of love, forgiveness, second chances and grace made it a very memorable tale.

After reading The Inn at at Ocean's Edge by Colleen Coble I decided to pick up Mermaid Moon (A Sunset Cove Novel), which is the second book in the Sunset Cove Series.

This book begins with a murder and my interest was quickly peaked from the beginning. Coble used descriptive words that drew me into the story, yet didn't bore me with endless details. I actually had trouble putting this book down at first.

As the story moved along, I lost a little interest. That doesn't mean the book became boring or bad, it just wasn't as engaging and interesting as it was in the beginning.

This book was a good read. I was kept in suspense through the book, but did lose interest at times throughout.

Mermaid Moon is the second book in the Sunset Cove series, this book can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the first book before reading this one!

This book synopsis got me at "Mallory's mother died fifteen years ago. But her father's last words on the phone were unmistakable: “Find . . . mother.”

I could not wait to get my hands on this book and find out if Mallory found her mother and why everyone thought she died. Colleen Coble did not disappoint this book was great! There were so many twists, turns and shocking things that happened in this book that will leave you breathless and speechless!

I look forward to reading more from Colleen Coble!

Clean Romance, some violence.
Mallory is brought back to her childhood home by her father's murder. Her daughter and good friend return as well after her home is broken into.
Mallory's past is gradually unfolded and uncovered over the course of the novel. Mysteries that she wasn't aware of gradually unfold and come to light as more and more vicious attacks are made on her and her loved ones. Kevin comes back into her life, at first to protect her, but their former feelings gradually resurface and come back into focus.
There are lots of complications, and complexities in this story. Some of them were a little confused for me, but that may have been because I was reading it so quickly to see how what the resolution would be.
I was definitely wrapped up in the mystery and suspense, and Mallory and Kevin's story sweetly unfolded in the middle of the suspense. Their natural, tender, and deep feelings for each other, along with gradual healing of the events of their past was very sweet, and made for a nice mix with the mystery/suspenseful part of the novel. Loved the Maine setting, small town feel, and the definite pull together aspect of the town. Overall a great read for me!

Exciting and spine tingling adventure awaits you in Mermaid Moon! I could not put this book down once I started reading it because I did not want to miss anything!

The novel starts off slower as we find out about Mallory’s Dads passing and how her relationship was somewhat strained between Mallory and Kevin as well as her family. Mallory had left Mermaid Point with no intention of ever coming back. Her Father’s death opens up almost a can of worms! Some were so shocking that I couldn’t stop reading because I just couldn’t believe how the story was developing. Every turn of the page was exciting and adventure full! This novel does not disappoint at all. It is full of suspense, adventure, romance and more.

I enjoyed the mystery and the twists and turns. What kept me coming back was wondering whether Mallory would find answers to all her questions and whether she could accept the ones she found. Her world is completely upended even as she reaches a point of coming home.
Mermaid Moon is perfect for those who love a mystery with a strong romance, too.

Another suspenseful story in the sunset series. Ms Coble is a wonderful storyteller as she weaves this story with twists and turns.

Mermaid Moon written by Colleen Coble was a nice read. This is book 2 in the Sunset Cove Series. This is easily read as a stand-alone though. The book starts out with a call from Mallory’s father and his last words were, “Find Mother.” I was eager to find out what this statement meant as the book stated, her mother died fifteen years prior to her receiving the call from her father with his dying words. I really got into the beginning of the story and then found that the middle did slow down quite a bit and took some time to get back up to the suspense from the beginning. The ending few chapters came back with the suspense and mystery in full force. I was gifted this book by Thomas Nelson in exchange for my honest review.

Colleen Coble is one of my favorite authors and this book does not disappoint! This story had me on the edge of my seat and worried for the main characters. I felt a part of the drama as it unfolded. I highly recommend this book!!

This is a very well written mystery filled with hurting characters who are given the opportunity for second chances. Before they can move on they need to forgive someone for something that happened in the past. There are many layers to this book, and as they were peeled back one at a time, the suspense and the desire to know more of the story kept me reading as fast as I could.

I am hoping that Christians and secular readers give this book a chance, as it seems that all of us need to forgive ourselves or others at some points in our lives.

I highly recommend this one, and I thank netgalley for the opportunity to read it.
