Description

Lis Wiehl incorporates her own experience as a TV host and federal prosecutor in this riveting series. Erica Sparks has become a superstar overnight. Is it due to her hard work and talent, or is she at the center of a spiraling conspiracy?

Erica Sparks is a beautiful and ambitious reporter who has just landed her dream job at Global News Network in New York. And while it was hard to leave Jenny, her cherished eight-year-old daughter, in the custody of her ex-husband, Erica is determined to succeed in the cutthroat world of big-time broadcasting. She can only hope her troubled past won’t come back to sabotage her dreams.

Although the wounds from her divorce are still fresh, Erica can’t deny the chemistry between her and her new producer, the handsome and empathetic Greg Underwood. But a relationship is the last thing she wants right now.

On her very first assignment, Erica inadvertently witnesses—and films—a horrific tragedy, scooping all the other networks. Mere weeks later, another tragedy strikes—again, right in front of Erica and her cameras.

Her career skyrockets overnight, but Erica is troubled. Deeply. This can’t just be coincidence. But what is it?

Erica will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. But she has to make sure disaster—and her troubled past—don’t catch up with her first.

Erica Sparks will do almost anything to succeed in her new job as a television reporter at her new job in New York, including leaving her 8 year old daughter with her ex-husband. In this cut throat business, she can’t allow anything to get in her way. As luck would have it, Erica is on the spot when a tragedy occurs, literally right in front of the camera on her first night. As the first newscaster with the story, she becomes a hot commodity. When another major story goes down, again, right in front of her, she begins to wonder if this is some kind of luck, or something much more sinister. Together with producer Greg Underwood, she investigates, hoping she won’t be the next news story herself. Some readers may be put off be Erica leaving her daughter behind to pursue a career, but I actually admired her for it.

I really liked this book. It's exciting and it has everything you could wish for in a book: mystery, suspense and even a little touch of romance.
Erica is a very strong and likeable character. She didn't have an easy life but she made the best of it and she shows that with hard work and determination you can accomplish a lot,.
As usual Lis Wiehl delivered a book I would warmly recommend to friends and family.

I really enjoyed this book and perhaps I am been a little mean by only giving it 3 stars. A fast paced novel that may be hard to believe but was very entertaining and a good read.

Erica Sparks is the latest news reporter to join Global News Network and is eager to make an impression on her boss. She very quickly gets into the action when news stories appear to fall into her lap and instant fame is achieved. Her first news outing sees her reporting on a ferry accident which occurs in the middle of her live report. Co-incidences continue to occur and a number of other stories have her in the right place at the right time. She begins to wonder if they are co-incidences or if there is more to it.

I like the style of Lis Wiehl's novels and find them fun to read and very entertaining.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Thomas Nelson fiction for a copy of this novel in exchange for a honest review.

On reflection I decided to change my rating to a 4 star.

Erica Sparks is a TV news reporter who has been plucked from obscurity into Superstardom with GNN news. She has been in the right place, at the right time twice. Coincidence? Maybe not. There is something wrong with the atmosphere at GNN. Erica doesn't know who to trust, including the owner of GNN and Greg. Greg, who seems interested personally in Erica, and she likes him too, but he works at GNN, so whose side is he on. Erica wants her new career, she wants to regain custody of her daughter, but at what price. She is being told to stay away from investigating stories, to just report stories, but Erica is compelled to find out the truth, even tho it puts her and everyone around her in danger. Can Erica find out the truth. Plenty of intrigue and deception in this book will keep you wondering who to trust. Another good read by Lis Wiehl.
