Description
A dynamic, honest, and beautifully written novel about a young mother who returns to her small-town Wisconsin home after living in a cult-like “Mommune,” and what happens with the other women in her family as they each navigate the constraints, complexities, and joys of modern motherhood.
Cass Simon never expected to return to small-town Wisconsin—not after escaping life inside a cult-like “Mommune” and falling under the spell of an online mom-fluencer. But with nowhere left to turn, she finds herself back under her family’s roof, carrying more questions than answers about what it means to be a mother.
Waiting for Cass is her own mother, Remy—hardworking matriarch of the Baumhaus supper club. Remy’s love for her children is fierce but tangled with old grief and the fear of letting go, especially as she prepares to say goodbye to the family business that has anchored them for generations.
Beside them stands Hilary, Cass’s older sister—an artist and devoted mother whose divorce has shaken her belief in herself; and Erin, a Simon by marriage, who is quietly battling heartbreak as she struggles to find gratitude for a pregnancy that both terrifies and redeems her. Each of the Simon women pursues her own vision of motherhood: Cass’s instinct for protection after trauma, Remy’s hope to be a harbor her daughters can always return to, and her sisters’ hard-won wisdom about letting go of perfection.
Set against the backdrop of a vibrant, sometimes claustrophobic Wisconsin town, this dynamic and beautifully honest novel explores forgiveness, the bonds—and boundaries—of family, and the deeply personal journey of discovering what it truly means to be a “good mother.”

I loved this so much!! It's been a while since I read a book that I literally could not put down. The plot was very engaging, and all the social commentaryish content was deft. I loved the portrayals of marriage and motherhood (though I am neither married nor a mother, so take my opinion with a grain of salt). I am also typically allergic to sister relationships in novels, but I liked it here! There was one thread that I feel did not wrap up well, but it didn't majorly lessen my enjoyment of the book as a whole.

Contemporary story about a woman who is closing a chapter on her family-owned supper club, while trying to connect with her three children, including a daughter who is fleeing from her complicated life as part of a cult-like mom's group. I enjoyed this story about family dynamics.

The Supper Club Saints was filled with complicated family dynamics, classic Wisconsin fixtures, and a whole lot of love + forgiveness. It was a beautiful portrayal of what it means to be a mother and sister, and how those relationships don't always look as polished or clear cut as we'd like them to (or as we see online).
After living in Wisconsin for many years, I was immediately drawn to this and it didn't disappoint! It was fun to follow each Simon family member's journey throughout both the flashbacks and the present (and even tiny glimpses at the future in the last chapter!). The book explored many different themes + quite a few heavier topics (miscarriages, grief, addiction, abuse), but did so very thoughtfully. I do wish content warnings were included at the beginning, just so people would know what they're going into.
I would definitely recommend picking this one up next summer!
Cass Simon left her small town and family without any explanation to join an influencer's 'Mommune' co-living situation. Now, two years later, she has to face the family and the life that she abandoned. Mother Remy, sister Hilary, brother Thomas and his wife Erin all have strong feelings about Cass' choices but they also have their own struggles.
Amid the contrasting lives of this family and those they love is the Baumhaus supper club that has been in the family for generations. Now matriarch Remy has decided to sell this institution and the Simon's have to deal with their feelings of loss and change.
What a lovely book about the messiness and beauty of life and the impact of family. Author Claire Swinarski absolutely brings the Simon family to life, with her lovely prose and descriptions about the minutia of living. She also delves into the joys and struggles of motherhood with empathy and understanding. I found myself tearing up more than once as I read about the struggles and love of the Simons. A touching, well written story that should not be missed. 5 stars.
I received this advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this book so much that I didn’t want it to end. The “mommune” part of the storyline as so relatable to things that have happened in our current times in the news. Cass is a relatable character and so is Remy. The complexity of them makes them more realistic. All of the women in this book have something to resonate with and the theme of boundaries is very strong throughout. Truly a great read for all women. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Highly recommend, and a natural follow up (but unrelated plot) to the author's first book for women, The Funeral Ladies of Ellerie County.
Character development was excellent and I could totally understand the nature of the siblings and spouses. The 'articles' were such a perfect contrast to the plot. I didn't want it to end, but I also plowed through because the tension was real.
The exploration of facets of motherhood was subtle but realistic.
Highly recommend ordering it!
Thanks to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC.

First, five stars for memorializing the Wando's fishbowl in literature.
Second, I very much enjoyed this book. The family dynamics felt realistic without being either saccharine or depressing and I loved the Wisconsin/supper club setting. There were a few bits (especially with the mother's backstory) that I felt could have been trimmed, but overall I wanted more time with these characters.
The Supper Club Saints was a very emotional look at the lives of a family from a small town in Wisconsin.
It tells a story of a family and how growing up there are always secrets and can be the foundation of some families. The dysfunctional makeup of this family brings everything out in the open and helps them still remain a family. The raw emotions that the author brought out in each of the characters made this a story that will stay in my mind for a long time. By the end of this book I felt I had known the characters for years.
Thank you NetGalley, #Claire Swinarski and Avon and Harper Voyager for the ARC of the book #The Supper Club Saints.
This is my personal review.
4 / 5 Stars -
Wow, I'm so pleased with all the books I've been reading recently. With that being said, let's dive into the Simon Family.
The Baumhaus Supper Club is a Simon family restaurant (and in a way - local social club) for the residents of this small town in Wisconsin. Mother (Remy) and sisters (Hilary, Cass, and in-law Erin) work through their differences as they all learn to co-exist with one another -- especially after Cass, the prodigal daughter, returns back to town after leaving for a "Mommune".
My favorite part of this whole book is Remy's perspective of the camp and how that shaped her as a mother. In fact, how everyone's childhoods shaped them to be the kind of mother they are today. I've never read a book with a premise like the "Mommune" (which is trad wife adjacent). As a side note, I do believe there will be more trad wife-centric plots in 2026/2027, but it was interesting to read about its effects on Cass' life.
If you like family dramas, generational stories, and nostalgia - this book will definitely be up your alley!
Thank you to Net Galley for this arc!
