Description
The last place Chas Montgomery wants to be is in the damp basement of an old church undergoing conversion therapy. But when her mother catches her kissing her best friend Jess, that's exactly where she ends up.
Years later, “Chastity” is a model of the life her family always wanted for her: married to a man and devoted to her faith. She’s done everything “right” and put her old life behind her for good. Until she meets Alex.
Alex is confident, compassionate, and everything Chas never knew she needed. As their connection deepens, Chas begins to question the beliefs she was forced to live by. For the first time, she chooses herself—and a new life filled with authenticity, freedom, and love.
But when an unexpected pregnancy from her marriage threatens to unravel everything, Chas must confront her past to protect her future. Can she hold on to the life she’s building with Alex, or will fear, guilt, and unrelenting pressure pull her back into the shadows?

Her Name Was Chas is an emotional and beautifully written story about a woman who spends years trying to fit herself into a life that was chosen for her, only to finally collide with the truth she’s buried since she was a teenager. Following Chas through the trauma of conversion therapy, the pressure to live as “Chastity,” and the quiet unraveling of her marriage, I found myself rooting for her long before she met Alex. What I loved most was how honest and raw the journey felt—Chas’s confusion, fear, and longing are portrayed so realistically that I couldn’t help but feel protective of her. This book broke my heart and pieced it back together in the best way, and I’m genuinely glad I read it.
If you’ve ever tried to shrink yourself to keep the peace, this book will blow the doors off your closet and hand you the keys to your real life!
Okay, so I devoured Her Name Was Chas like it was a bag of gummy bears I had zero intention of sharing, and let me tell you—I FELT this story. Watching Chas try to survive her past and then slowly fall for Alex had me squealing, gasping, and whispering “girl, RUN toward the light!” every few pages. The drama? Delicious. The tension? Chef’s kiss. The liberation arc? Goosebumps. If you want a story that’ll yank your heart out, scrub it clean, and hand it back with a glittery rainbow ribbon, you need this book in your life. 🌈💋📚
