Description
My name is Emma, and I am a marine biologist. A marine biologist is a scientist that studies life in the sea. Did you know that 70 percent of our planet is covered by oceans?
Follow the adventures of a marine biologist for a week, and learn about our magical, mysterious, watery world. Full of amazing facts, incredible creatures, and beautiful illustrations, this book gives you insights into:
- Whale monitoring and how these enormous creatures talk to each other
- How clownfish populations are increasing with the help of hatcheries
- How giant cuttlefish are the chameleons of the sea and communicate by changing their skin color
- Discovering a new species of sea snakes
- How humans are building reefs to help protect diverse marine life from extinction
- How surfing teaches us to ride the waves and understand the ocean
Advance Praise
" Emma's engaging voice vibrates with enthusiasm for her work; each day is different but equally absorbing. Fascinating bits of information are deftly interspersed: a checklist of necessary equipment, a trick to avert sea sickness, stats on ocean life. Bright, stylized but accurate, saturated-color scenes convey a lively you-are-there vibe, while carefully labeled, limpid drawings of sea creatures provide rich information about the environment and its inhabitants. Vicarious immersion in a sea-soaked vocation. (glossary, suggestions for would-be marine biologists)(Nonfiction. 8-12) "-Kirkus Reviews

Diary of a Marine Biologist is a wonderful picture book with charming illustrations following a Marine Biologist on her adventures for a week. The stories of the daily activities combined with the facts about ocean creatures, conservation and science make this an engaging and educational book for young readers and ocean enthusiasts. My children really enjoyed reading it with me and we will be getting a copy for our bookshelf🤿🐠

Im obviously not the age range for this book, but I absolutely adored it. Everything was organized and easy to follow. It like having a little job shadow for a little marine biologist in the making. I also loved the art and scientific diagrams. Ill be buying this for my daughter

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read the ARC for this book. Readers get a sense of what "typical" days look for a marine biologist. The illustrations are wonderful and help to clarify the information.

Although im older than the intended audience for this book, I enjoyed it as much as my children did! It was a fascinating look behind the scenes of a day as a marine biologist. I loved the format and how many interesting facts I learned while reading about a day in in the life of a marine biologist.
