The latest standalone thriller from New York Times bestseller Jeff Abbott
A disgraced intel officer anxious to redeem herself after a disastrous mission, January Holte vows to uncover the identity of a traitor who is selling her agency’s secrets. The few clues she’s found have led her to a sleepy river town: Lethey, Texas—and to the one man who might know the truth.
July Whitlock, a rookie bodyguard, searches for his one and only client, who has suddenly disappeared. He follows a trail to Lethey to find his missing protectee—Bill Connors.
But Bill’s friends and enemies in Lethey have secrets of their own. And as January and July ask questions no one wants to answer, they find a tangled web of murder, greed, and ambition—one that will kill anyone who tries to unravel its mysteries.

I have read all of Jeff Abbott's books and have enjoyed each of them I found this one a bit hard to get into and lacking the fast pace of the others. Thanks for the advanced read and good luck witht he book.

I’ve read several of Jeff Abbott’s books and enjoyed them very much. This one, JANUARY AND JULY, a little less so.
The premise is an interesting one. A young spy, January, bungles an assignment in Paris. A bodyguard, July, loses his protectee in Houston. Then not long after these unfortunate events, they wind up in the same little town, Lethey, Texas, looking for the same man, Bill Connors, so they can reclaim the good reputations they feel they’ve lost. The town is populated by a bunch of weird people with questionable motives, and wouldn’t you know it, they’re all asking the same question as January and July: “Where’s Bill?”
The ensuing investigation, studded with slow-moving intrigue and a couple of murders, comprises the first three-fourths of the book. The last quarter is a torrent of rumination, explanation, and revelation that flows so fast I had to go back and re-read some just to be sure I understood what was going on. I’m not altogether sure I succeeded.
JANUARY AND JULY is not a bad book; it’s just a sluggish one. By the end, I surmised it has to be the the introduction of a new series. I’m pretty sure I’ll read installment two. First, because January and July are such likable, flawed characters I want to get to know them better. Second, Bill Connors, the enigma nobody really seems to know, must have a fascinating story to tell. And finally, maybe we’ll be let in on the secret of what’s up with those names that just happen to be months of the year. If a second book does come to pass, I’m hopeful that Abbott will return to the fast-paced, riveting tales I so enjoyed in his other books.
