I loved every part of this story.

The amount of action is perfect for this kind of story. With so many creatures and having dangerous jobs, there has to be a lot of the action to express the world and the characters. The beginning, when building the world and the characters, I was hooked right away. As I read further into the book, I started to care for these characters. The amount of pain and demons of their own, had me hoping for the best for them all.

The world in which this story takes place, is bleak and dark. The creatures are plenty, and boy do they bring in the horror and gore. I could feel the fear and anxiety just being in the places they traveled to.

The writing in this book is its greatest strength—dark, vivid, and immersive, with prose that intensifies both the atmosphere and the emotional weight of the story. The world feels brutal and lived-in, filled with grotesque creatures, dangerous foes, and uneasy alliances where trust is rare and victories are never clean. Aaron, not fully human and painfully aware of it, is a compelling protagonist whose outsider status adds depth to the squad dynamics and moral tension of the narrative. While the timeline and setting can occasionally feel muddled, and some sections would benefit from tighter pacing, the author’s descriptive power and clear passion for this world kept me engaged throughout. With stronger structural clarity, this story has the potential to truly stand out in the dark fantasy space.
