Description
New from the beloved New York Times bestselling author of Summers at the Saint and Hello, Summer!
Pack your bags for a summer journey shaped by family secrets, long-buried history, and charming men with Irish accents.
Maeve and Therese Dunigan haven’t spoken in years. Raised under the same roof in Savannah, the two sisters could not be more opposite—Maeve the rule follower, Therese the unapologetic rebel. But when their mother’s death pulls them back together, they inherit more than just grief: a mysterious painting that may be worth millions…if it’s real.
Determined to uncover the truth—and desperately in need of the money—the sisters set out on a journey to Ireland, tracing their family’s roots and the origins of the portrait. What begins as a search for answers soon becomes something deeper—a reckoning with the past, as they uncover secrets that span generations and reshape everything they thought they knew about their family.
With tensions simmering, the two hit the road and find themselves on twisty lanes, in colorful villages, at local pubs, and with handsome men whose gift of the gab is surpassed only by their charm.
Can Maeve and Therese actually survive the journey without killing each other? Join Mary Kay Andrews on a road trip that will entertain you for miles.

Worth every moment of the wait — and then some.
There are books you recommend because they're good, and then there are books you press into someone's hands because you need them to read it. This is the latter.
MKA has done something quietly remarkable here: blended mystery, romance, and family drama in proportions so perfectly balanced you barely notice the craft behind it. The Irish setting breathes and pulses on the page — heritage, landscape, long-buried secrets — and the cast of characters is the kind of quirky, fully-realized ensemble that makes you feel like you've known them for years. Fair warning: there are multiple storylines and some well-deployed time hops, so settle in, trust the journey, and don't try to read this one in stolen five-minute increments. It deserves your full attention.
But here's what really hooked me: it's not the mystery or the atmosphere that lingers after you close the cover. It's the small, tender moments — the hesitant steps toward healing, the attempt to find common ground across years of distance and old hurt. As someone who knows a thing or two about the particular complexity of sister relationships (as a gay brother with two sisters), I found myself nodding along with Therese and Maeve, recognizing that long memory, that deep emotional thread that binds siblings even when — especially when — everything else has shifted.
At the center of it all is a mother's final gift: not just an object, but a bridge. A chance for her daughters to discover something more about themselves, about each other, about where they come from. It's the kind of story that makes you want to call your sister — or understand her a little better if you do.
A gem. Already one of my favorite reads about family bonds this year.

MKA has written a novel that is a little different than the norm, but she knocked it out of the park. The story is about two sisters who have just lost their mother. These two sisters couldn't be more different if they tried. One responsible and practical while the other chases her dream of being an actress. Through a last request of their mother, they venture to Ireland to research family history and that of a family portrait that has been handed down through generations. Through forced proximity, they begin to understand one another and even rub off on each other a bit. The story is a great one of relationships and finding what is important in life. Another wonderful book. Thanks to you, MKA!!!

With a smorgasbord of history, romance, mystery, and family relationships this novel satisfies all of the readers requirements of a delicious read. Mary Kay Andrews is a fantastic storyteller allowing the reader to visualize the scenes as the actors portray their roles. It is never to late to let go and live life.
I love anything Mary Kay writes and road trip was no different. There was a lot of characters to keep up with but I’m looking forward to reading this while I’m on the beach this summer!

Tho was a great book that was part mystery and part family saga. A large part of the book takes place in Ireland, and the writing was so descriptive that I felt like I was there. For fans of Mary Kay Andrews’ books, this one will not disappoint.

A new book from Mary Kay Andrews? Yes, please!! One of my all-time top five favorite authors and just all around great human! Road Trip is her latest book. This one takes us away from the usual beach setting, and let me tell you, I’m here for it! The two main characters are funny and oh so human - I’ve known these women. Of course I do live in the south! I loved Road Trip, and will be recommending it to everyone I know!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC download. This was my first Mary Kay Andrews book and I’m totally hooked! I started the book at the beginning of spring break and couldn’t put it down. Not only are the dual timelines woven throughout the book a favorite text feature of mine, but the gifted way in which Mary Kay Andrews blends story elements of a romance, mystery and family drama together knocks Road Trip out of the park! Solid 5 stars and I can’t wait to read more of her books. Keep up the amazing work!

It’s nearly summer, and I loved this new MKA book! Old houses, missing paintings, secrets galore, family drama, a bit of romance and a trip to Ireland! Two sisters, Maeve and Therese go to Ireland to follow up on some old family secrets and discover a whole lot more. Having Irish ancestry myself and loving my visits to Ireland, I was in love with this story from start to finish!
