Description
Pack your bag for a summer read filled with mystery, romance, intrigue, travel, cozy pubs, and charming men with Irish accents.
Maeve and Therese Dunigan are sisters, but the two have been estranged for years. They could not be more opposite: Maeve is the rule follower and Therese is the rebel. But when their mother’s death brings the family back together, the two find that they have inherited a painting—one that could be worth millions and save them from the wolves at their door. The only issue is whether it’s real or a fake—and the only way they can prove that theirs is the real McCoy is to solve the mystery of how this portrait of an Anglo-Irish aristocrat made its way to their childhood home in Savannah, Georgia. This means a road trip—to Ireland, to their family roots, and to a mysterious crime that occurred generations ago. With tensions simmering, the two hit the road and find themselves on twisty lanes, in colorful villages, at local pubs, and with handsome men whose gift of the gab is surpassed only by their charm. Can Maeve and Therese actually survive the journey without killing each other? Join Mary Kay Andrews on a road trip that will entertain you for miles.

Worth every moment of the wait — and then some.
There are books you recommend because they're good, and then there are books you press into someone's hands because you need them to read it. This is the latter.
MKA has done something quietly remarkable here: blended mystery, romance, and family drama in proportions so perfectly balanced you barely notice the craft behind it. The Irish setting breathes and pulses on the page — heritage, landscape, long-buried secrets — and the cast of characters is the kind of quirky, fully-realized ensemble that makes you feel like you've known them for years. Fair warning: there are multiple storylines and some well-deployed time hops, so settle in, trust the journey, and don't try to read this one in stolen five-minute increments. It deserves your full attention.
But here's what really hooked me: it's not the mystery or the atmosphere that lingers after you close the cover. It's the small, tender moments — the hesitant steps toward healing, the attempt to find common ground across years of distance and old hurt. As someone who knows a thing or two about the particular complexity of sister relationships (as a gay brother with two sisters), I found myself nodding along with Therese and Maeve, recognizing that long memory, that deep emotional thread that binds siblings even when — especially when — everything else has shifted.
At the center of it all is a mother's final gift: not just an object, but a bridge. A chance for her daughters to discover something more about themselves, about each other, about where they come from. It's the kind of story that makes you want to call your sister — or understand her a little better if you do.
A gem. Already one of my favorite reads about family bonds this year.

MKA has written a novel that is a little different than the norm, but she knocked it out of the park. The story is about two sisters who have just lost their mother. These two sisters couldn't be more different if they tried. One responsible and practical while the other chases her dream of being an actress. Through a last request of their mother, they venture to Ireland to research family history and that of a family portrait that has been handed down through generations. Through forced proximity, they begin to understand one another and even rub off on each other a bit. The story is a great one of relationships and finding what is important in life. Another wonderful book. Thanks to you, MKA!!!

With a smorgasbord of history, romance, mystery, and family relationships this novel satisfies all of the readers requirements of a delicious read. Mary Kay Andrews is a fantastic storyteller allowing the reader to visualize the scenes as the actors portray their roles. It is never to late to let go and live life.
I love anything Mary Kay writes and road trip was no different. There was a lot of characters to keep up with but I’m looking forward to reading this while I’m on the beach this summer!
