Away to See: Martha’s Vineyard is a beautiful book filled with a combination of gorgeous oil paintings and evocative poetry. I’ve never been to Martha’s Vineyard, let alone heard of it, but the stories told through this book are extremely familiar ones of island life; the community of a town, the hot sun and the fading summer. The oil paintings in this boom are gorgeous, with a mix of more abstract and more detailed works all conveying the similar theme of the island. The poetry is also varied, with some much shorter pieces as well as longer prose to accompany each painting, and altogether they create this lovely little book with plenty of content to enjoy basking it. This would be a wonderful gift for someone who loves an island, whether it’s Martha’s Vineyard or another beautiful destination, and it’s just the right length to be able to enjoy a different element of the island each time you flick through. A very charming and almost nostalgic little book, I enjoyed it a lot.

The authors of this title have been going to the Vineyard for thirty years so they are wonderful companions for a virtual visit. The artwork is colorful, textured and catchy, while the observations in the text show why the island is a special place.

This book is truly lovely. I will enjoy paging through it many times. It would make a good gift for anyone with a connection to Martha’s Vineyard, or who enjoys escaping through a book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and The Collective Book Studio for this title. All thoughts are my own.
