“A fantasy whodunnit set in the fertile and flourishing world of Cosconia”
The Twelve Race War is over. Peace has come to Cosconia at last, and Gravipar is flourishing with new life. Izzie finally got everything she ever hoped for. All is well…
Until a dead water fae is discovered in the night, drained of every drop of blood. Then another. When two more follow, the truth is clear: there is a serial killer on the loose in Gravipar. No fae is safe–and water fae aren't the only fae in Cosconia any longer.
Izzie and Syrel must contend with the Fae Filleter while they face the consequences of past untruths, shocking revelations from loved ones, and devastating personal tragedies. Who is the killer? And, more importantly, why do they want the blood of the fae?
Advance Praise
Praise from The Midwizard of Cosconia, Book #1 in the "Call the Midwiz" series:
"The Midwizard of Cosconia isn’t just a fantasy novel; it’s a love letter to women’s strength, resilience, and the power of compassionate care. The story is original and clearly crafted with love."
"This book delivers on every level, with a perfect blend of friendship, drama, action, romance, and humor. Kudos to the author for tackling the complexities of pregnancy with sensitivity and depth!"
"A debut novel that bursts onto the fantasy scene with a relatable FMC, a bit of a love story and a unique magic system. Combining the visceral reality of midwifery with the sprawling imagination of high fantasy, Schoppen creates a lush, multi-species world where birth is not just biological but deeply political, spiritual, and magical. This novel is a one-of-a-kind, must read."
"I LOVED this book. This is the first book I have read for pleasure in over five years and for the last two weeks I have not been able to put it down, choosing to read each evening instead of watching TV!"

If you love Lord of the Rings but sometimes wish it had a little more bite, chaos, and sass—congrats, you’ve just found your next fantasy obsession.
Blood of the Fae delivers classic epic fantasy vibes with a modern, sharper edge. Think rich world-building, ancient magic, and dangerous fae politics… but with a faster pace and characters who actually feel like they’d roll their eyes in the middle of destiny. The fae aren’t just pretty and mysterious here—they’re ruthless, clever, and dripping with secrets.
The story balances action, intrigue, and lore without drowning you in endless descriptions (looking at you, three-page tree scenes). There’s blood, betrayal, and enough tension to keep you flipping pages well past your bedtime. Schoppen builds a world that feels familiar to high-fantasy lovers, yet fresh enough to stand on its own without feeling like a copycat.

Okay first I’ll say this is so well written. I love the prose, the banter between characters and obviously I adore Baggie Smalls!
Now, this does delve into sensitive topics surrounding women’s health regarding obgyn care. I’ve experienced miscarriage so some of it was difficult to read however I feel the author is brilliant with comedic relief while also covering such a sensitive topic. And I love that the author warned readers in advance that it could be difficult to read. I do love that the author expertly brings to light these issues.
I am so grateful for this arc read and look forward to the rest of the series. If you love good banter, comedic relief, Lord of the Rings vibes, then you NEED to read this book!
