Description
Damar Scott is a man with everything to lose—and even more to hide. To the world, he’s a devoted husband and father, but behind closed doors, he’s keeping an explosive secret: an affair that ends in tragedy. Now, he’s desperate to erase the evidence, bury the truth, and preserve the illusion of a perfect life . . . no matter the cost.
Aviana suspects someone is out to destroy her, unaware that the real threat lies much closer to home. As her marriage begins to unravel, she turns to Mythic—her first love and longtime confidant—rekindling feelings she thought she’d buried. Torn between past and present, and with her sense of reality slipping, Aviana inches closer to a truth that could shatter everything.
As Damar sinks deeper into guilt and delusion, and Aviana untangles the lies tightening around her, the truth erupts, warping love into control and exposing the wreckage left by secrets too dangerous to stay buried.

I Love You Too Much is an emotionally charged, messy, and intentionally uncomfortable read—and that’s exactly where its strength lies.
What stood out most to me was how the novel leans into moral ambiguity without trying to soften it. The characters are deeply flawed, often making choices that are frustrating or unsettling, yet the emotional logic behind those choices always feels clear. The tension comes less from shock and more from watching secrets tighten their grip, turning love into leverage and intimacy into something dangerous.
Jessica N. Watkins does an excellent job portraying how deception corrodes relationships from the inside. The slow unraveling of trust, the paranoia, and the obsession all feel organic rather than forced. I especially appreciated how the story explores control disguised as love—how easily protection becomes possession, and how quickly guilt mutates into manipulation.
The pacing kept me engaged, and while the story leans heavily into drama, it never felt accidental. The emotional volatility is the point. There were moments where I wanted to shake the characters, but that reaction only reinforced how effectively the author drew me into their inner chaos.
This may not work for readers looking for clean heroes or neat resolutions, but for those who enjoy relationship-driven suspense where everyone is capable of causing damage, it’s a compelling read. The book understands that the most dangerous lies are the ones we tell ourselves, and it doesn’t flinch from the fallout.
Overall, I Love You Too Much is tense, provocative, and unapologetically messy,a story that lingers not because of twists alone, but because of the emotional wreckage left behind.
This cover drew me in the first time I saw it. The intro to the book is suspenseful and I read this book in one sitting. I loved the characters and how they were portrayed in the book. "What a tangle web was weaved" in this book. Jessica N. Watkins lets you explore the city with not over detailing everything. She makes you laugh, cry, and want to throw your e-reader across the room.
I Love You Too Much by Jessica N. Watkins is feral, volatile, and unapologetically uncomfortable—and the brilliance of this book lives entirely in the writing. Watkins doesn’t rush, soften, or rescue the reader from the emotional damage unfolding on the page. Her prose is deliberate and sharp, letting tension coil slowly until it feels suffocating, and she trusts the reader enough to sit in that discomfort without hand-holding. Through Arielle and Malik, she dismantles the illusion of romantic safety, showing how easily love mutates when secrecy, guilt, and fear are allowed to fester. Every choice they make is frustrating, messy, and deeply human, and the emotional logic behind those choices is so clear it hurts. Watkins excels at writing obsession not as spectacle but as erosion—the quiet paranoia, the internal justifications, the way control disguises itself as protection and possession masquerades as devotion. The pacing keeps tightening the screws, not through constant twists, but through the slow collapse of trust, where intimacy becomes a weapon and vulnerability turns dangerous. This is not a feel-good romance or a story interested in redemption arcs wrapped in bows; it’s character-driven chaos that understands emotional wreckage is the point. By the end, you’re not shocked—you’re shaken, because the fallout feels earned and disturbingly real. Thank you to Jessica N. Watkins, NetGalley, and Black Odyssey Media for the opportunity to read and review
I love you too much Jessica Watkins was domestic, suspense, thriller mixed with obsession. I throughly enjoyed me from the beginning, By 12% i had to sit up as the deception, manipulations, lies, and secrets started to surface within 51% of the book i remember writing "this has gone too far!"
We are introduced to 4 characters. Damar is a successful club promotor married the sweet and kind hearted Avianna. It is apparent from the beginning how obsessive is with her although trying to hide it as love. Avianna although married to Damar she does not feel that passion as she once felt for her ex boyfriend the Mr. Mythic but is trying to be good wife to her husband who in eyes was the "safe choice"
In this book we see betrayal on all different levels, lies, deception, manipulation in attempt to maintain a level of control. Secrets on top of secrets, and lies on top of lies. This story takes us on a ride and question to what extent would you go to bury a secret and what all are you willing to sacrifice to keep your lie and secret hidden. We watched or MMC unravel on so many different levels that made ask "is it worth it", love is supposed to be easy and not forced but what extent will you go to make sure someone love you but raise the question is this for love or control? My last note read "please never love me this much!" i loved the book, the plot all the twist that have you gasping and literally disgusted.
I absolutely loved this read. My girl gave us a romantic suspense filled with twists and turns. There was a moment I didn’t expect to cry, but she definitely tugged on my tear ducts.
Avi and Mythic deserved all the love they sought. Damar and Mia deserved the pits of hell. Jeremy deserved better.
Ms Jessica Watkins deserves her flowers.
This was an amazing read. I kinda haven’t read this genre in so long, but this book brought me back into the genre and it was so good. It was so frustrating. It’s entertaining a fast piece. I love the storyline of characters. Everything came together. It was a beautiful story well written, and I will recommend.
This was a good read. I didn't expect half of what happened which made me enjoy the book even more. Oh and let's not forget the book cover is beautiful.

I Love You Too Much by Jessica N. Watkins is a suspenseful thriller layered with intense romance and psychological tension, centered on Black characters and set against the backdrop of summertime in Chicago. Summertime in the Chi is supposed to be full of fun and great energy, but this story is anything but....The story follows a controlling, narcissistic husband who will go to deadly lengths to keep his wife from discovering who he truly is. Filled with lies, manipulation, and deceit, this gripping read also explores second chances and the courage it takes to follow your heart, even when the truth is dangerous. The Chicago setting adds atmosphere and edge, making the tension feel even more real.
