Description

What does a single woman do when she longs to be a mother and hears her biological clock tick, tick, ticking away, but she keeps dating Mr. Wrong? She adopts a baby, of course.... In the author’s case, it was a fur baby. For fans of Marley & Me, Birdie & Harlow, and Must Love Dogs, Mommy’s Boy is the tale of two lost souls finding the unconditional love, companionship, and emotional support they need, in the process forging a deep and profound bond as close as a mother and child. In his own special way, Benny helps Jennifer overcome her shyness, love without limits, and learn to love herself in preparation for her human soulmate. But when Benny faces a life-threatening illness, Jennifer must face the reality that no matter what we do, our time with our pets is limited.

Mommy’s Boy takes the reader on a transformative journey of love, loss, healing, redemption, and learning to love again. A tender and heartfelt tribute, Mommy’s Boy will resonate with anyone who’s loved a fur baby who was more than “just a dog,” he was family.

Marketing Plan

At forty-one, Jennifer is shy, anxious, and frustrated with her dating life. After one too many broken hearts, she shifts her focus from meeting the man of her dreams to finding her four-legged soulmate. Left to fend for himself on the streets of Chicagoland, a sickly, scruffy dog gains a second chance at life when a rescue group scoops him up and nurses him back to health. When the little dog gazes into Jen’s eyes on the day their worlds collide, she immediately knows he’s “the one.” After she brings home the wriggly ragamuffin and rechristens him Benny, he wiggles his way into her heart and takes up permanent residence. Despite his angelic face and calm demeanor, Benny harbors a mischievous side. He steals any food that isn’t nailed down, chases squirrels with reckless abandon, unleashes a destructive streak, and battles chronic allergies and infections. He also eases Jennifer’s “baby fever,” becomes the spokesdog of her business, and is her constant companion as they zigzag the Midwest. But when Benny faces a life-threatening illness, Jen must face the reality that no matter what we do, our time with our pets is limited.

Mommy’s Boy is the heartwarming true story of two lost souls forging an unbreakable bond of unconditional love and emotional support. It’s a tender tribute to a special dog and a reminder to cherish every moment we have with our furry friends.

At times there are some heartbreaking moments, but overall, this is a story of love. The love of a dog, and the mom who loves him back.

There is so much more to this story, but I will caution you if you are thinking about reading this, because you will fall in love with this dog, as well.
And if you're like me, you'll need tissues by the end of this story. Not that it is over all sad, although there are some moments which are sad, but there is so much more to this story than that.

As I was reading 'Mommy's Boy', with my four dogs by my side, three Maltese and a Biewer Terrier, I couldn't help but keep on reading, and I'm so glad that I did.

Jennifer Huston Schaeffer's "Mommy's Boy" was a sweet reminder of how much love receive when we have dogs in our lives, even when they can be mischievous.

If you are a dog person, this book will make you cry. It might make you cry if you aren’t a dog person but I wouldn’t know. Mommy’s Boy is the story of Jennifer, whose latest relationship has ended, whose biological clock is ticking to midnight and who fears she will never find love and Benny (né Bo), a westie-maltese youngish dog, abandoned to fend for himself. They meet at an adoption event and it’s love at first sight. Jennifer gives Benny regular meals, a comfortable bed, toys, clothing and all the love she has. The love Benny gives back makes her so confident that she starts her own business, buys a condo and finds a husband. But all good things come to an end and, although Jennifer and many specialists do everything possible to save Benny, he dies.

There are pictures of Benny and Jennifer and you can feel the love radiating from each photo. If you have a dog (I do) you understand what unconditional love is. Jennifer and Benny certainly have it. I loved this book and I loved Benny. Thank you, Jennifer Schaeffer, for introducing us. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, White Dog Books and Jennifer Huston Schaeffer for this ARC.

As a dog mom and dog lover this book called to me. I laughed and smiled, worried and cried. All the emotions that I go through with my own dogs. It's heartbreaking and destroys you knowing how little time you have with them. But personally I think it is worth every tear because of the joy and love and laughter. This story is brilliantly told about one woman's life with her dog through good but also through the bad heartache.
