Description
"Thrilling and absolutely entertaining! THIS is how you write an original main character!" ― Iliana Xander, author of Love, Mom
From bestselling indie thriller writer Natalie Barelli comes a new deliciously dark novel about a woman who married the man of her dreams, only for him to become her worst nightmare.
Jodie always dreamed of being a housewife. And after a whirlwind romance, she marries renowned psychologist Dr. Roy Davies and moves into his perfect Beverly Hills home. But the fairy tale fades fast. Roy is distant, his friends view her as a gold-digger, and the house still reveres his late wife, Deborah, whose presence still looms over everyone and everything.
When Jodie learns Deborah became a recluse before death, she begins to suspect Roy was behind it. And the deeper she digs, the darker Roy's past appears—obsessive, controlling, unfaithful. Increasingly convinced he had something to do with Deborah's death, Jodie knows she should go to the police, but that would require revealing her own secret. A secret that could destroy her.
But Jodie won't be silenced. Because the truth about Roy is worse than she imagined—and now, trapped in a house built on lies, she must find a way out before she becomes the next perfect wife to vanish.

"Thrilling and absolutely entertaining! THIS is how you write an original main character!" ― Iliana Xander, author of Love, Mom
"A taut, twisty triumph! Natalie Barelli’s The Housewife hooked me from the very first page. Jodie’s voice is irresistible―fresh, flawed, determined―and Barelli uses it to pull you straight into a beguiling Beverly Hills fairy tale that curdles into something much darker and far more delicious.
The pacing is fantastic: every chapter tightens the tension, every reveal hits with precision. I devoured this book in a single sitting, racing through the red flags, whispered secrets, and the chilling legacy of the late wife who still haunts the halls. As Jodie digs into Roy’s polished façade, the suspense builds to a pitch-perfect fever―layered, breathless, and utterly propulsive. And just when you think you know where it’s going, the story pivots with a twist that lands beautifully.
"Sharp, stylish, and utterly compulsive, The Housewife is the kind of psychological suspense I love most: a perfect cocktail of voice, velocity, and vertigo-inducing tension. An absolute must-read." ― Kaira Rouda, USA Today bestselling author of We Were Never Friends
"Barelli delivers a razor-sharp thriller that redefines the 'unreliable narrator.' You’ll be breathless as Jodie maneuvers through a world of high-society harpies and a mystery that will make you rethink every cup of tea you’re served." ― Daniel G. Miller, USA Today bestselling author of The Orphanage by the Lake and The Red Letter
“Tense, addictive, and impossible to put down.” — Minka Kent, Washington Post bestselling author

Ok I was absolutely sucked into this story! The cover is amazing . I suggest when you sit down to read this, prepare to not close the book until you’re finished. Make time because you aren’t going to want it to be over. (I stayed up way too late at night and was exhausted the next morning) but it was so worth it!

This book kept me up late turning pages, as I couldn't sleep before knowing a few key details the author cleverly left hanging as this story unfolded. I really enjoyed this one, especially because it was able to make you feel a sense of empathy for some characters, disdain for others, and a real emotional connection to the main character once you understand her.
Instantly one of my favorites from Natalie Barelli, and I highly recommend it!
I am an absolute sucker for the unhinged and unreliable narrators that make readers constantly question what they are reading and guessing until the end, and Natalie Barelli does not disappoint with her new domestic thriller, The Housewife. Readers will not want to put down this page-turner as they dive into the world of Beverly Hills money, gossip, and murder. Perfect for Fredia McFadden fans of surprise twist endings.

Natalie Barelli, just like Freida McFadden and Daniel Hurst, can make you read her books in a day! What a great book, "The Housewife" was. So good!
A snarky, slightly unhinged narrator who also happens to be the main character?! Sign me up!! Natalie Barelli’s latest novel, The Housewife, absolutely NEEDS to be on everyone’s TBR. I devoured this book in a single day because I could not put my Kindle down.
This five-star read is a brilliant domestic thriller, delivering sharp wit alongside nonstop tension. Having loved Natalie Barelli’s previous books, I went in completely blind, and I’m so glad I did. What truly took me by surprise was the depth of this story. I became deeply invested in the main character’s past and present, which added an emotional layer I wasn’t expecting.
The twists hit harder, the suspense stayed high, and the narrator’s voice made the entire experience wildly addictive. If you love smart, twisty mysteries with a bold, unforgettable main character, this one is not to be missed.
This is my first book by Natalie Barelli and I must say I absolutely want to read more by her! The Housewife is a fast pace book full of twists and turn that will keep read you guessing till the end!

I'm a long-time fan of this author, and I was thrilled to see this upcoming release that pulled me in immediately. Jodie marries Dr. Roy Davies after a whirlwind romance and steps straight into what should be a dream life in Beverly Hills, only to realize the fantasy has teeth. Roy is often cold and distant, his friends treat her like an interloper, and the house itself feels haunted by the presence of his late wife, Deborah. As Jodie settles in, it becomes clear that Deborah did not simply fade away, and the more Jodie learns about her reclusive final years, the more uneasy I became about what really happened inside that perfect home.
What really got under my skin was watching Jodie start to question everything around her while also doubting herself. I could feel the pressure building as she uncovered more about Roy’s controlling behavior and disturbing past, all while knowing she was trapped by her own secrets. The psychological tension is relentless, and I found myself constantly second guessing what I thought I knew. The house, the marriage, and even Jodie’s role as the “perfect” wife all start to feel like a carefully constructed house of cards.
The tension builds until it's uncomfortable, and when things fly off the rails, it's in the best possible ways. This book is deliciously dark, completely addictive, and emotionally charged enough that I lost track of time and kept reading with that awful, dreadful knot curled tightly in my stomach. I was rooting for Jodie while feeling genuine dread about whether she would get out in one piece. If you love domestic thrillers that slowly tighten the screws and leave you breathless by the end, this one delivers in a big way. So many thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the early copy. This one will publish June 30, 2026.

Domestic bliss? More like domestic chaos🧹 The Housewife hoovered me in and had my head spinning like a Maytag.
Jodie always dreamed of being a housewife, but her Beverly Hills life is far from the fairy tale she imagined. The main character is sharp, unpredictable, and hilariously dry – she had me laughing and gasping at the same time 😈.
Seriously fun, twisty, and completely unputdownable – this one is sure to be a hit when it’s released!
“The Housewife” Natalie Barelli
Oh man, if you like whiplash in the best way, this book is for you. One minute you think you’re on to something and the next, you’re proven wrong and think something else.
Jodie marries a successful psychologist, Dr. Roy Davies. Their love, quick and fast, have people talking. You see, Roy recently lost his late wife, yet quickly moved on. As Jodie’s marriage continues, she starts to see a change in Roy’s behavior. Odd things such as him keeping pictures up of his late wife, keeping her wedding dress, and other odd things. She starts to question Roy and wants to uncover truths that seem to have been ignored.
Absolutely devoured this book all in a morning while my family slept. Natalie Barelli is one of those authors, if you read one book, you have to read the rest of their books! I felt the pace of the book was timed well, I never lost interest, didn’t feel like I had to finish it. It was just perfect.
Thank you to Netgalley, Natalie Barelli, Poisoned Pen Press, and Source Books for allowing me access to an early advance reader copy of this e-book. All of words in this review are my own.
Wow! This book was really, really good. The pacing was perfect, never dragged for a second, and there were so many twists that kept me hooked. Jodie was such a strong main character; she never gave up, and I loved rooting for her through everything. I do wish I had her love for cleaning, cooking, and being a housewife though 😅
I kind of figured out where the story was heading, but even so, it landed perfectly and still surprised me in all the right ways. The tension in the house with Roy’s dark past and the lingering shadow of Deborah kept me on edge.
I’ll definitely be picking up more books from this author.
The Housewife by Natalie Barelli lures you in with a compelling premise, and then hooks you with a perfectly crafted first person narrative. I could not stop reading.
Jodie has married Roy whose first wife, Deborah, has only recently died. Very early on, Jodie reveals a shocking truth about herself, laying the groundwork for a truly twisty tale that will make your heart race and your head spin simultaneously. Don't sleep on Ms Barelli's latest, and make sure to clear a few hours because you will not want to put it down.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC.

While waitressing Jodie met Roy, he had recently lost his wife to suicide and Jodie wanted him.
They got married and Jodie. Not only was an amazing cook but also a great housewife, but things were not what they seemed and Jodie worried she was in danger,

Excellent read! I stayed up late to complete this book. We feel that we are in the same house as the protagonist, as she is in Roy's office searching for clues. We feel her fear and terror. Highly recommend!

This book IS SO GOOD. It catches you from page one and you will not be able to put the book down. It’s so fast paced and the characters are just so good. Saw this as a recommended book on tik tok and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Thank you so much for letting me read this
From the first few chapters I immediately knew this was going to be such a fun and wild ride! Truly felt like I needed a bottomless bowl of popcorn 🍿 Being inside of Jodie’s head while she navigated her revenge plot after leaving prison was truly tantalizing. I love a good twist and this book had PLENTY! I was even shocked by one of the twist which as an avid thriller reader it’s usually pretty hard to shock me. The side characters were fully fledged out and my heart is still with Dolores and Mikey. To top it all off the ending was wrapped up perfectly. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun, twisty and wildly entertaining book to pick up The Housewife by Natalie Barelli! 10/10 recommend!!!
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Books and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review!
Look, I'm going to be honest right out of the gate- I actually think that this is going to be one of my top books for 2026. I simply could not put it down!
At first glance, I thought this was set up to be another "Rebecca" remake; of course, there are some not-so-vague "Rebecca" undertones. Jodie, our main character, actually even references it- extremely meta! I thought that was a smart little wink to a previous work. That said, this book, however, is NOBODY'S clone! I've never encountered a character quite like Jodie, which is a shame, because she was an amazing lead!. She was unique and certainly one of a kind.
There is SO much I want to say about this book, but I also think it would be better for the reader to go in with only what written on the back cover of the book. I will say that Barelli has earned a new fan. Her writing style, pacing, dark humor, atmosphere, steady plot line and incredibly interesting characters made for an extremely easy, fun read. I found d myself invested in Jodie from the be, and couldn't wait to find out if she'd be able to get justice for her sister's death. Did the husband really kill her? Or would this plot line tie in more with "Rebecca"? I'll just leave it at that.
Will I handsell this? I mean, obviously! As I said before, this is one of the best books I've read recently, so I cannot wait until it is released and I cab show it to other readers! I cannot wait to see what Natalie Barelli does next- whatever it is, sign me up!
this book had me sat! from the first page i was hooked and eating it up. The twists, the plot, it was such a fun read and i didn’t expect some of the twists, which is perfect because sometimes a story can be predictable but i adored this one. This was a fun psychological thrillers with tons od dark/snarky humor which I absolutely love!
