Description

Lord Samuel Chance, suddenly Marquess of Aylesbury, has a problem. A one-hundred-and-twenty-thousand-pound problem.

The fortune has been left to him by a distant relative, but the will stipulates it must go to him and his wife. Which would be great, if he had a wife. An accidental panicked lie to a solicitor—and his mother—later, and Samuel Chance in is the market for a swift marriage.

Rosemary Morgan is ready for anything to change swiftly in her life. After running away from home and becoming an actress on the stage, she’s lost her role in her latest production, along with her opportunity for any income, and now—now a man who is far too handsome is offering to pay her to be his wife for a year and a day.

All she’s got to do is agree to never to consummate the marriage.

Now it’s time for the biggest role of her life: marchioness and Society lady. But there are secrets in Rose’s past that might upset everything, and when feelings start to develop on both sides, how long can they fight this?

Good thing it’s all an act, right? After all, Samuel has taken a chance on this woman…

This novel continues the highly anticipated Chance family drama, with sixteen cousins and triple the problems. Tropes include: marriage of convenience, fake engagement, strangers to lovers, hidden past, and of course, Emily E K Murdoch’s tried and true method of sizzling, joyful romance.

This full-length novel is a steamy Regency romance with a happily ever after and no cliffhangers. It is part of a series that can be read in any order.

This was my first book in the series, and I had a good time.

It seems that a chance meeting and a marriage of convenience should solve problems for both Rosemary, a down on her luck actress, and Samuel, a newly minted marquess. The plan: staying married for a year. The one rule: the marriage cannot be consummated. We know where this is going.

While it was not the most unpredictable story that I have ever read, I still enjoyed it because of the writing and characters. Charming and vulnerable Rose, and Samuel, a man who listens, take a chance on each other. What follows is a sweet romance, with some good spice. Samuel’s big chaotic family also added to the charm.

Overall, it was a cute story that I think fans of Regency romance will enjoy.

Thank you to Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for an early copy.

Oh how this family feeds my soul! The love, the laughter, the cacophony of noise is so adorable! Everything is a scandal, at least in their minds and watching it is a hoot! Samuel gets his story with Rose and it is a doozy! I adored their meet-cute and how much of a spaced out man Samuel can be. I hurt for Rose, with her family issues, but loved how she handled people, especially Lady Rominell. There is a twist I didn’t see coming that made the story even more interesting. I loved their chemistry and watching them fall for each other is so sweet. I would have thought the scene with her parents would have been a little more vocal, but at least we got to see the ‘reunion’. No crass language, (Thank you Author!) and tasteful love scenes along with this crazy family makes this one enjoyable book!!

I received this story for free and these are my own views.

I really enjoyed this as a historical romance novel, it had that overall feel that I was looking for and enjoyed about this series and characters in this. It had that time-period perfectly done and enjoyed the way the characters were written in this universe. It was engaging and worked well in this setting and enjoyed the overall romance of this. Emily E K Murdoch has a great way of telling the story and glad I got to get back in the world of the Chances.
