Description
She is the one temptation I was never meant to survive.
I was forged for one purpose—to hunt, to end, to serve Death.
I don’t falter. I don’t feel. And I don’t want.
Not until her.
Catriona is a half-Fae woman who believes magic passed her by… but the truth coils beneath her skin, waiting to ignite. Power like hers doesn’t stay hidden for long—and when it rises, every Dark Fae in existence will come for her blood.
But I was the first to see her.
The first to sense the storm inside her.
The first to want her with a hunger that threatens everything I am.
I know I should walk away. A Reaper has no room for desire, no right to crave a woman who could shatter the balance I was created to protect.
But one look from her, and every rule I’ve lived by fractures.
I’ll guard her.
I’ll claim her.
I’ll defy Death if I must.
And if the world wants to tear her from me…it will learn exactly what a Reaper is capable of when he finally has something to lose.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant weaves a seductive, high-stakes tale of forbidden desire, deadly power, and a love strong enough to defy even Death in the Reaper series.

Fintan & Cat's book was amazing! I love Donna Grant's books. She has a special way that draws you into her books that drives me a little insane because of the hints & clues that teases your mind. The interaction between the Reapers & the Dragon Kings was a very promising part that I am looking forward to reading more about. I absolutely can't get enough of the Reapers. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Cat lives in Ireland and is half fae half human with no magic. Her parents died in a car wreck and her siblings were killed, all she has left is her grandfather. She runs a little cafe and keeps to herself. She believes the Fae want to kill her because she’s a Halfling. Cat meets Fintan, a handsome man with white hair, who just happens to be a Reaper. Fintan became a Reaper when he was killed and betrayed. Fintan has turned off his emotions but Cat has brought them to the surface. Fintan and the other Reapers are looking for their brethren who is either dead or captured. An ex Reaper Bran wants to destroy Death and the other Reapers and believes Cat is the key to taking them down. Cat and Fintan work together until Fintan thinks Cat has betrayed him but she is trying to save him and her grandfather. Will they destroy their common enemy?
A little steamy. Betrayal. Fae and magic. Great story. Death and the Reapers. I received this from Netgalley and voluntarily reviewed this book.
I really enjoyed this book! It was such a quick, easy read that completely pulled me in. The plot kept me hooked and constantly wanting more, and I found it so entertaining from start to finish. I’ll admit I was a little confused at the beginning, but as the story unfolded everything started to click into place — which made it even more satisfying. Overall, it was such a fun read, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone and everyone!
I read this one in less than 24 hours, which honestly says a lot about the pacing.
Dark Alpha’s Lover is a fast-paced paranormal romantasy set in modern Ireland, following Fintan, one of Death’s Reapers, and Catriona, a halfling who unexpectedly becomes entangled in a war far bigger than she ever imagined.
This is definitely not a slow burn. From the start there were already feelings and attraction involved, which is normally faster than I prefer. However, it didn’t actually bother me. The story moves quickly, and the dynamic between Fintan and Cat makes the emotional progression feel natural within this type of book.
Fintan does have a character arc, but the novel itself is relatively short and not particularly deep, so his development reflects that. His internal conflict with Death isn’t explored in great depth, but that didn’t diminish my enjoyment. I read this primarily for entertainment, and in that regard, it absolutely delivered.
Catriona was actually my favorite character. She has agency, her halfling heritage is relevant to the plot, and she experiences real development beyond simply being the love interest. That made the romance feel more balanced.
The overall pacing is strong, the balance between action and romance works well, and the story flows effortlessly. The war with Bran feels like a genuine threat, even if we don’t spend enough time in his POV to fully understand him as an antagonist.
I enjoyed the Irish setting, and the use of local expressions added to the atmosphere. Occasionally, the dialect felt a bit emphasized, but overall it didn’t take away from the reading experience.
This is one of those books that reads quickly and easily, perfect as a palate cleanser between heavier fantasy reads. It may not be deeply layered or emotionally intense, but it’s engaging, entertaining, and very readable.
I’ll definitely continue the Reaper series!
I found Dark Alpha’s Lover by Donna Grant book 4 of the series to be a gripping and thoroughly enjoyable read. The story was well written, with a compelling plot that kept me fully invested and eager to see how everything would unfold.
Cat is a particularly strong character layered, believable, and easy to root for. Her personal journey and growth throughout the novel added genuine emotional depth to the story, while the character dynamics kept the tension engaging.
A very satisfying and memorable read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC

Thank you Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I did not realise this was book 4 but I really enjoyed it, and did not feel like I was missing anything for not reading the others.
This was my first book by Grant and they have written such a great mix of romance and story telling. I read this in one sitting and will pick the others up too!

I enjoyed this book. It's at times tragic, heartbreaking, twisted and steamy. Cat has incredible power which costs her what's left of her family. She is wanted for her strength but the evil underestimated her. I loved the ending and look forward to the next Reapers book.

The fourth book in Donna Grant's Reaper series is called "Dark Alpha's Lover." I am kept on my toes by the exciting events both in and out of bed, the descriptive language, and the engaging characters. It is best read in order as it is a series with a continuous plot, although some readers have managed to read each book as a standalone novel.
If your a fan of JR Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood you will love these books.
Fast-paced book that you can pick up & it just makes sense. Definetly a fun read. It gave me Black Dagger Brother hood vibes but with Fae. I really enjoyed this & would 100% pick up the others in this serries.
I loved how action packed and well paced this was, it kept me turning the pages long after I should of gone to bed, the chemistry was sizzling! Loved this!

This is Fintan and Cat’ story, love me some Reapers, Cat is a halfling who believes she has no powers. Fintan is a Reaper with no feelings. When the get together boy are there feelings and powers!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review
This was such a fun and quick read and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. I love the author's rich storytelling and character arcs. She did such a fantastic job of making sure that you didn't feel like you were missing out by not starting from book 1, but also wrote such a great read that now im definitely going to back and start from there.
One rogue Reaper wanting to usurp Death, one Reaper with millennia against him and his feelings boxed away, and one Halfling unaware of her magic - all come together in magic, adventure, suspense, and romance - maybe a visit from a Dragon King along the way! Paranormal romantasy as it is meant to be - just read it.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I was a bit confused at first because this book's events didn't match my reading timeline and then realized that this was a prior book that was republished. So much has happened in the Dragon Kings and Reapers worlds that I just wanted to add that clarification.
The reaper series is great and anytime that I see a new one, I am going to read it!
Fintan is a reaper that is studying a half-Fae, Cat, because it seems there are many Fae watching her. Is it because they think she is next to die when there seems to be someone killing the half-Fae or is there another reason?
The reapers are still trying to find and stop Bran and to locate the missing Eoghan, along with Erith (Death) losing her powers, the Reapers are being kept busy.
You kind of understand that Bran is angry when is love is killed and wants to retaliate - especially when the rules about mates has changed after he was punished.
Lots of drama, intrigue as the Reapers and Cat try to stay ahead of Bran and figure out what he wants with Cat - great book that I could not put down!

I have not read any other books from this series but I am now going to. This book grabs you before you will finish the first chapter. The characters were perfectly written and I loved the storyline. I felt the story was a bit rushed at times and I long for more of their story. I highly recommend this book and starting with the first book in the series will make this story better understood.

"Dark Alpha's Lover" by Donna Grant, which I recently finished, was such a fantastic read!
The character of Cat truly stood out to me as a strong female lead. I loved how she embraced her destiny without shying away from the challenges she faced. Her resilience was inspiring! Finton, the Reaper on a quest to track down Bran, added an intriguing dynamic to the story. Their unexpected partnership and the way they fell for each other amidst the chaos was beautifully crafted.
Overall, the story was riveting from start to finish and incredibly enjoyable.
