Gene the Green Bean Dancing Machine is 0ne of those books you'll either quite like or...
I wasn't ov erly enthused by this book. I felt the illustrations were ok but that certain elements didn't belong on the page. And whilst they were colourful and bold, they all appeared on one side with the words written on the opposite page. There was no variation, the pages with the text were a dull colour in comparison and I found it quite unstimulating.
The author had a good go at creating rhymes but they were a little off as Patterson tried to rhyme 'sad' and 'have and 'McQueen' and 'seems'. The rhythm was also off-kilter with lines of varying length, which I found odd when the book is about Gene the Dancing Machine
I imagine it will be book that is read once or twice and put down again, rather than a book that becomes a treasured addition to a home library.
*I received this book for free through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
You’d be better off watching VeggieTales.
The reason I say that is that all of the illustrations are nearly the same. Since I do not have the audio that goes with this interactive kids' book, I found it flat. All in all, just not the best choice.
