Description

All romance ever brought Becca Williams was a lot of heartache and one miracle—her brilliant, beautiful daughter. But now her baby is a college graduate headed for a new life of her own in New York City. And this 48-year-old empty nester is facing a new life alone in Dayton, Kentucky.

Except she’s not alone. She’s got her Fab Four—the core group of besties she’s had since high school she still sees every day. She has a job she loves in a vet’s office and volunteers at an animal rescue—love and joy galore. She might occasionally still dream of finding a soulmate, but she has no illusions. At her age, all the good ones really are taken, whether they admit it or not. The rest are broken and looking for a caretaker. All in all, she’d rather get her kisses from Roscoe, her most high energy rescue client, the dog she wishes she could adopt herself.

After five years as a widower, David Green is just as gun-shy as Becca, and like her, he’s gotten used to feeding his soul with work. But his best friend and fellow nurse, Luisa, insists he just needs to “put himself out there.” Even after a series of first dates that range from empty to outright disaster, she’s still pushing, still saying he has too much life and love left inside of him to just give up. But looking for a second soulmate after losing his first wife feels like he’s asking too much. When he meets Becca, he is utterly charmed. But that spark feels too good to be true.

Luckily for both of them, Roscoe and destiny are working together on a plan. All it takes is one massive, crazy, adorable dog and a whole lot of mud to shove these two out of their own way and into one another’s arms. And once they’re there, nothing can stop them from taking a risk on love.

All romance ever brought Becca Williams was a lot of heartache and one miracle—her brilliant, beautiful daughter. But now her baby is a college graduate headed for a new life of her own in New York...

I really enjoyed this charming, later-in-life romance. As a dog lover with two rescues of my own, I was instantly drawn in by the cover and plot—and I’m happy to say the story lived up to expectations!
The book is filled with humour and heart, featuring a wonderfully sweet pairing in Becca (48) and David (50). Their shyness and the gentle way their relationship unfolds make their connection feel genuine and deeply satisfying. It’s one of those romances where you can’t help but smile as two perfectly matched people find their way to each other.
The supporting cast—Luisa, Rhonda, Kate, Sherry, and Becca’s daughter Izzy—adds warmth and personality, especially the strong, supportive friendship dynamic surrounding Becca.
And of course, Roscoe, the lovable Great Dane mix, completely steals the show! He brought plenty of laughs and was easily a highlight for me.
While I would have loved a bit more insight into Becca’s work at the vet clinic and her volunteering at the rescue (only because i'm an animal lover), the story still delivers as a light, feel-good read.
If you’re looking for an easy, sweet romance with a touch of humour—and a delightful canine companion—this is definitely one to pick up.

This is a super cute quick read of a sweet rumcom that has an adorable dog. What more could you want? Maybe a big lomping around a horse of a dog.But a dog that's adorable nonetheless, rebecca, as a daughter who is just getting ready to leave the nest and move from there. Kentucky town to New York City and start her new adventures and Becca things. I'll show have left is her three best friends from middle school. They call each other, the fab four- rebecca's always been alone. Her mother passed away before her daughter was born. And her daughter's father turned out to be a married man who preferred to just disappear anyway, one of the fab four kate was in a serious car accident and wasn't able to attend Becca's daughter Izzy's college graduation, soshi don's the cap and down and goes to the hospital. So she can see, and while they're there becca meets a nurse named David and while she finds him attractive and friendly, she gets the wrong impression that he's married.Even though he's actually a widower, they end up having a re-meet cute at the park with rebecca's foster horse (actually a great dane mix) David is also interested in Becca, but remember she thinks he's married. So she's very turned off when he asks for her number- when's the signals get uncrossed? And the facts are set straight let me go on a date and buy themselves. I'm very happy with each other. And they both start to wonder if love and happiness can exist in the second part of your life- i liked this book because it shows the power of friendship and how important that is. And having your child(ren) leave house and dealing with that - most importantly, I love any look that mentions rescue and adopting and fostering shelter animals so that was really fun, and the dog Roscoe (that happened to be my childhood dogs name) was written very good you could picture the dog popping around tail flying ... It's a very quick fast read, it's super cute romcom- little, tiny bit of spice, but not a ton. Definitely recommend!
