Description
A young witch must harness her power to confront a deadly demon in the New York Times bestselling author's fantasy series debut.
After losing her parents, Aoleyn is left to fend for herself among a tribe of vicious barbarians. But even as she is bound by rigid traditions, she dreams of escaping into the world beyond her mountain home.
To achieve the freedom she desires, she must learn to wield the Song of Usgar, the mysterious power used by her coven. Thankfully, Aoleyn may be the strongest witch to have ever lived, but magic comes at price. Her abilities have caught the eye of the tribe's brutish warlord. And even more terrifying is the witch-hunting demon of the mountain who is drawn to Aoleyn's talent like a beacon in the night.

This is the story about the strength of a woman, the sacrifices she has to make for survival and how women can also turn against women.
I would like to say that I wouldn’t usually pick this type of book but it sort of gave me a reality check that the life in the world is not very simple. The world is harsh which is proven by how men use power to ruin other people’s lives, by the women who are not considerate towards another woman in pain.
Our main character, Aoleyn, is a free‑spirited girl who is head‑strong and questions the norms of her tribe. Through her journey, instead of flowing harmoniously with the traditions of the tribe, she constantly challenges it. She finds strength in resilience and perseverance and in being kind. Where others act viciously, she acts with kindness, although at some points even she acts a bit rude. She hones her power to a greater degree than the other witches of the coven.
The world building is built around nature which is splendidly described. The descriptions are crisp.
The narrators have done a great job in bringing this book to life. The background sound and the way the narration were very cinematic.
I would recommend this book to people aged 18 and above.
A throat gripping book by a weaver of tales.
I was very impressed with this one.
I didn't know if it would be my thing from the start, because it all started rather dark.
Soon, however, I was fully hooked and couldn't stop listening.
It was very pleasant to have a different voice for everyone so that you could easily follow who was speaking and whose pov it was.
I applaud the author for weaving all the povs and stories so nicely together. You really get closure and the puzzle pieces fit perfectly.
Would recommend, absolutely.
