Description

The Second Coming: An Erotic, Thrilling Political Satire

Julie Chen, an uptight lawyer from Washington, D.C., is sent to the unremarkable town of Pothos, Georgia to prosecute a voting rights case. Time has forgotten Pothos, though there was not much to remember of it anyway.

What starts as a straightforward case quickly descends into chaos. The courthouse burns down, disrupting the simple judicial process, and the townspeople believe it is the work of the ghost of a Confederate general, disturbed by Ms. Chen’s attempts to bring equality to Pothos. Julie Chen is having none of this, and wants to find the truth of the matter. The only person that may have witnessed the living criminal who burned the courthouse is Ms. Honeypaw, an alleged psychic with her own deep ties to the darkness within Pothos.

As Julie navigates the complications of small town life, she discovers that her own simple ambitions are not as fulfilling as she once thought they were. Things get even more complicated when she develops an interest in two men: Josh, a mechanic, who is attractive, gentle and accessible, and Ri’Chard, the unavailable but lip-bitingly handsome, quiet and calculating tow-truck driver.

“The Second Coming” is about an awakening of both the past and Julie, as she discovers that coming to Pothos would change her life forever.

An audacious novel that features a sharp wit and an even sharper view of American politics.

A Note From the Publisher

(M4A) Budding Author in Search of an Audience.
I’m a first time author looking for my future audience. I know they’re out there. So far the readers who enjoyed this book were single women over the age of 40, intelligent, with a subversive sense of humor and a disgust with the American political climate. I think this book is perfect for fans of “The Good Fight” and 90’s/early 00’s tasteless horror movies. Bonus if you tried out Wiccanism in high school (being a weird queer kid, it was inevitable I’d be hanging out with witches).

“The Second Coming” is grounded in the authentic experience of women’s pleasure. It’s not high-literature, but it’s quite layered. It features spicy content about a woman discovering her own sexuality. It does address the continuing injustice of voter discrimination, but does not explicitly mention political parties, other than the idea of the Confederacy.

It is a scorching satire, but also a psychological thriller with a hefty dose of mystery. I think it’s perfect for someone who wants an easy, fun read after a more challenging book. Also, everyone in this book is on their worst behavior, and this breaks many rules of the traditional Romance genre. The main character, Julie Chen, is Taiwanese-American.

Tropes: Infidelity, Paranormal, Political Oppression, Racial Politics, Current Events, Forbidden Romance, Complicated heroine, LGBTQ+ Characters.

An advanced copy was previously uploaded to Net Galley, but this is the final version with some changes.
