This was a lovely little story that I think animals lovers will be able to relate to very much. Also a novel that just proves how much a heart will go to to protect what it loves

Quirky but loveable! A novel about a dog and the love for a dog but that starts something that grows and grows. We see a lot about the world at large and the nuclear experiments of the US - again as I say, quirky but a story to savour!

I found this book incredibly difficult to put down. As an animal lover, I found some parts particularly challenging to read. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the storyline. The only downside was that it ended on a cliffhanger, leaving me wanting more. This book is incredibly informative, delving into dark and disturbing stories from around the world that we often overlook. I was shocked to learn that beagles are a top choice for animal testing. Despite their reputation for being non-aggressive and loyal, they endure unimaginable suffering. This book serves as a powerful reminder of the cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals.

This was so much more than I expected. Sometimes the universe puts people together for a reason, and that seems to be the case here. I was captivated as I started reading the book, but as I kept reading, I had to read it all to see just where their journeys were taking them. They were facing many issues and had to learn to trust each other, and they kept on doing what they felt they had to. I was glad I read this book and it made me think at times.

Wonderful plot, characters, and writing!... and dogs!
Dog Days of Planet Earth is the most enjoyable book I have read in a long time!
To me, the most important aspect of a fiction book is the plot. This plot is an unusual but believable story. Veterinarian Trevor Westmore ends up in prison for 25 years just because he tried to help a friend! I will say no more to avoid spoilers.
The characters are well drawn and credible. Trevor’s struggles both in prison are believable, and I felt deep sympathy for him. For example, when he gets out of prison, what should he tell new acquaintances about his past, especially Laura Fenway, a veterinarian Trevor is attracted to for more than her professional skills!? Trevor’s dog Libby, who was given to him by a prison guard when he was released from prison, is a great supporting character in more ways than one!
The excellent writing provides a vivid setting that helps the story progress and the characters seem real. It sets the moods for scenes very well. My copy is full of my comments like “If you are having a rough day, read this!” I had to smile when, after being released, Trevor showers twice just because he can!
There is also some interesting background information blended into the book. It is set in both 1958-59 and 1985-86, and there are some good mentions of events occurring during that period, like American A-bomb testing that exposed service members to radiation. There was also sad but good discussion about using animals in research for human medicine.
I was at first attracted to this book by the title, which led me to expect a science fiction novel. Otherwise, I might not have requested an advance review copy. I am SO glad I was misled! This is my first book by Theresa O’Shea, but I immediately put her others on my Want to Read list.
