Frankie’s story about wanting to be something other than she is and be one of the kids despite her very obvious differences is one of including and diversity for all ages! Frankie learns to celebrate her differences and what makes her special and unique, while still being of one the gang. This is a heartfelt story for us all!
I'm Frankie Frankenstein is a total delight! Frankie is a 'very big' monster girl who seemingly has it all—a dad who builds her incredible toys and even a skeleton for a home teacher—but she feels like something is missing. All she truly wants is to go to school and make friends, and her journey to get there is both funny and deeply moving.
José Carlos Andrés brings his background in theater and clowning to the text, making the story feel alive and full of laughter. The illustrations by Gómez are equally wonderful, capturing Frankie’s large presence and gentle heart perfectly. It’s an inspiring celebration of acceptance that teaches kids that being 'different' doesn't mean you can't find your place in the world. A perfect read-aloud for home or the classroom!

This is such a wonderful book about learning to accept yourself as you are. Frankie figures out that she's lonely and decides to go make friends and start school, and it's even realistic that she startles her new friend first. This is a sweet story.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
I adore Halloween-y books, and I enjoy twists on classic tales almost as much. It was exciting to see a twist on Frankenstein in this way, making "Frankie" much younger than the original Frankenstein's Monster created by Mary Shelley. It was fresh and I was anticipating a funny tale to tell during October. However, this is not what this story is about.
Yes, it's about a "monster" (Frankie) created by Frankenstein (Daddy), but it goes much deeper than I would've expected. Our very large, not normal sized child, is faced with being made fun of by other kids (presumably her age) making fun of her for her size. It touches on very real experiences young children have every day.
It is this fact that makes me wonder if it's a little too deep for a children's book. This could be a sensitive topic, depending how this story impacts the little ones reading it, and it's hard to go from a very cute story to a child feel so ashamed of her size that she's asking her father to fix her. It's heartbreaking and, regardless of how it works out in the book (you need to read to find out), it should come with a trigger warning. Yes, children books typically don't, but they are getting enough body image negativity from social media and peers; they don't need it from their literature too.
If I ignore that plot point, which is a little hard for me to ignore, it really is a great story. It was cute and funny at times, and it has some really sweet characters that shows kindness and true friendship. However, it still rubs me the wrong way, so I cannot say I fully recommend this in an educational setting unless it's for a lesson on how words can hurt each other.
Frankie Frankenstein wants to try something new. She lives with her dad and is homeschooled, but wants to meet new people and make friends! Her dad lets her try this and she initially feels out of place, but is able to eventually realize how being herself is what makes her special. The illustrations are very cute and the message is something that kids (and all of us) can use on occasion.
Thanks to NubeOcho and NetGalley for an eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
I will never and can never get tired of "you're perfect exactly as you are" storylines in children's books.
I love how supportive the dad is to allow Frankie to try new things. How gentle and loving Teenie is. When presented with a chance to be like everyone else, Frankie sees what makes her so dang special, and decides to stay the same.
Big or small, short or tall, adventures are just around the corner.
Such a cute story with amazing characters. The moral of the story is be happy being yourself. Fun illustrations. Teenie and Frankie made great, best friends.
I was blessed with an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own and unbiased. Thank you NetGalley.

What a lovely little read about the importance of being true to yourself. I did really like the supportive father aspect because it was so cute. The art style is so incredibly sweet. I definitely recommend this, especially for families that are into spookier aesthetics.
Oh my goodness, this book was so cute! The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, and I felt like they really enhanced the story. I loved the important concepts this book covered, especially showing that there's nothing wrong with being different. Kids today can be very harsh and i feel like a child could really relate to this book if they notice any mean comments being said to them about their physical appearance.
Thank you to Netgalley, José Carlos Andrés, and Publisher Spotlight for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and feedback.

I adored this book. I know some will say it’s Halloween themed but if you have a kiddo who loves all things Halloween or just love female empowerment books, this is an all the time book!
Frankie has a dad who gives her everything she wants, but she wants more than tangible things. She wants friends and to go to school. When she sees how different she is she wants to make some changes, and asks her dad. It was beautiful to see her process what those changes may be and hear feedback from her new friend too. She really saw her worth and decided for herself. The support of her dad was beautiful too! I loved This!

Frankie Frankenstein is a simple sweet children’s book about loving and appreciating our differences. Frankie doesn’t quite look like everyone else and at first that makes her insecure and some kids scared but rather than change what is different about her she see the good in it.
The animation is cute. The story feels a little long and there is some unnecessary gross humor in the beginning that being said my kids liked it.
