Description

A cosy story about mother-daughter relationships and starting over in life, set in a luxurious Italian spa resort

Olivia swore she would never grow up to be like her mother, who fled to Sicily to be with her lover when Olivia was a teenager. But now in her thirties, the spark in Olivia’s marriage has been extinguished for years, she’s hopelessly pining over her attractive business partner, Markus, and her own teenage daughter barely speaks to her.

So when her estranged mother offers to pay for an eight-week trip to a luxurious wellness centre in Italy, Olivia reluctantly accepts. A break will be good for her. For everyone. There’s just one catch... Susan is staying in the adjoining room.

Fuelled by gorgeous weather, good food and even better wine, can the two women overcome their history and form the mother-daughter bond that Olivia always dreamed of? Or is it too late for second chances?

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. On holiday last year, I chain-read a number of Barone's books, so I was pleased to be granted an ARC of her latest book. This was an enjoyable read. While I would have liked more detail about why Olivia's daughter was so cold towards her, I felt that Barone captured the Italian setting beautifully, immersing the reader in Olivia's story.

This book had great depths I am a real fan of Nancy’s books. This one didn’t let me down. Olivia is in a loveless marriage. She is trapped because she doesn’t want to repeat the cycle and leave like her mum Susan did. So she has stayed and her and Tom are miserable.
She loves with her dad and her two kids. She also has her hot business partner Markus nearby and he essentially is the loveliest dad to the kids. Olivia hasn’t seen her mum for 22 years and has rebuked any attempt to make up even though her kids and dad have spent every summer with her and her new husband Aldo since forever and her dad speaks to her mum daily.
Olivia just can’t forgive and it’s eating her up.
When Olivia is at breaking point her dad suggests an 8 week spa break paid for by her mum and she eventually concedes to this. What she doesn’t bargain for is her roommate to be her mum. She has been duped. The summer is spent getting to know each other and through therapy herself. This book dealt with serious subjects in a gentle manner. It’s a perfect beach read or just a book to snuggle up with.
I loved it.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this family story set in Italy by an author I hadn’t tried before.
Olivia is estranged from her mother, she hasn’t seen her for 22 years despite the fact that her own father has forgiven her for leaving him for another man, an Italian millionaire.
Olivia is stressed, her own marriage is falling apart, she barely speaks to,her teenage daughter and she’s secretly in love with her business partner, Markus.
When her mother invites her for an all expenses paid stay at a health spa in Italy, Olivia reluctantly accepts only to arrive and discover her mother is in the next room. Could things get any worse?
This was an easy read which examined feelings and how someone’s life can be badly affected due to unresolved anger and the failure to forgive.
I found Olivia a strange character- she needed to be less rigid and let go of her bad feelings for her mother. At some points I felt like giving her a good talking too- she really does not behave like the adult she is but like an abandoned child who feels that the world owes them something.
As the book progresses Olivia finally sees the light and seems to grow up a bit, realising how much time she has wasted.
This would be a good Summer read as it is definitely a page turner- I was keen to see how all issues were resolved.
I would certainly be interested to read another book by this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.

As soon as instarted reading Nancy's books I fell in love. And I love when you get that from an author. That instant high of " yes this is already,I know it,another found author that is going to be in my auto read." And when id finished that book I knew it was even more true. That book went into my to keep list. So when I saw this one i couldnt wait. And im more than happy to say my reader gut instinct was right as this was another beautiful read.
I love how it was unique too. It was about love but so much more and in much more ways than one of romance. And wow, don't we all know how much love between families can be incredible and strong even in how they hurt us the most. And that is what we see here. Especially around things that stick with us BECAUSE of how much we care. For Olivia to do with her mum I saw so much of that. Because you always somehow want your mum. So what happens to you when she leaves. And what happens when that wound fester?
And olivia has been estranged from her mother for such a long time.pouring over that. Add to that the issues going on for her besides that and you've got one struggling woman, mother and wife. When she gets the chance to go off to a spa break? Oh yes please. Buuuut what she hadn't realised is her not so separate hotel mate is her mother. Grrrr.
I cpuld totally see all of how Olivia was reacting like. I saw in her that reversal to the younger person she was that was hurt. That wanted mum. Thst knew mum left. You dont get over that at any age especially when younger and those feelings get trapped. But that gave her room to grow and heal. I loved those little glimmers that her thoughts kind of got entangled. I wanted that for her.
Oh and of course we forget to add that this is ser in Italy. I mean come on. Where better to heal, hurt, then maybe heal again.
I loved the way Nancy wrote this. Some tough topics but they never overwhelm.and you get to know and care about all of the characters. Its uplifting in its own unique way. Its complex, its human, its love. How qpuld it all look for all our family by the end?
I felt once again better when I closed this book. I couldnt ask for more. Thank goodness for the brilliant authors in our lives.

This was a wonderful read from start to finish. While it had a few light moments this had deep emotional roots. While Olivia gets invited to Sicily by her mother who left her father years ago she took the opportunity but was very resentful towards her mum. Olivia did frustrated me at times, being in a loveless marriage and with teenage children. The story setting in Sicily was perfect and the author captured it beautifully. Really enjoyed the soul seaching and it's emotional second chance moments.
