Description

A stunning story about a teenage boy grappling with grief who tries adventure therapy and changes his life forever, perfect for fans of Jandy Nelson and John Green

‘Raw, propulsive and unforgettable.’ Josh Silver, bestselling author of HappyHead

Ever since his brother’s death, Case’s anxiety has been spiralling. Sean was more than his best friend – he was the only person who ‘got him’.

When his parents suggest adventure therapy, Case is desperate enough to agree. But as he boards the coach with a group of nervous strangers, he sees the one person he’s been trying to avoid: his brother’s girlfriend, Diana.

Once they set off, it is pretty much as Case expects, with some cringey singing and forced sharing. Until their guide mysteriously disappears, and the trip turns into a journey of survival.

This group of stressed out strangers, with nothing in common but their prescriptions and a lack of social skills, will have to band together to make it back home. In the process, they will change each other’s lives forever.

‘This novel of uncommon depth and astounding empathy will take you on a powerful and hopeful adventure into the human heart that will leave you breathless.’ Abdi Nazemian, award-winning author of Like a Love Story

Peter Bognanni's How to Lose Yourself Completely is an emotionally rich and compelling young adult novel that touches on themes of loss, anxiety, and recovery. It is difficult not to relate to the protagonist's experience of adventure therapy, which is depicted with a lot of authenticity and emotionality. The presence of survival contributes significantly to the development of the plot and makes the book exciting. The friendships and emotional development depicted in the book make one want to continue reading.
