Description

Some dynasties are built on oil, others on lies.

The Mentor’s Daughter is a twisting psychological suspense thriller that blends heart, danger, and deception.

On a winter’s eve in Tulsa’s wealthiest enclave, oil magnate Jim Munro goes missing. His estranged daughter — brilliant, mercenary, and sociopathic by reputation — becomes his most unlikely lifeline.

But for Eli Scott, a compassionate but haunted oilman working through his past demons thanks to therapist Lizzy Beauregard, Jim is much more than a mentor; he is the man who saved him.

With Lizzy’s help, Eli must navigate the daughter’s labyrinth of lies to save his friend. When Eli unearths life-changing secrets at the heart of the ransom demand, he suspects the oil patriarch who once nearly destroyed him is pulling the strings.

Eli is forced to join the patriarch’s estranged daughter to pierce their dynasty’s dark heart. But the worlds they come from mix like oil and water, and they battle to find the blurred lines between trust and family, and healing and survival.

Now, trapped by a deadly choice that Eli never saw coming, he discovers that truth and lies are indistinguishable — and that making a choice between them will cost him everything.

The Mentor’s Daughter will appeal to readers who crave stories that pair adrenalin with deep psychological suspense. It’s a gripping story of crime, family betrayal, and unlikely alliances where nothing is as it seems.

The Mentor’s Daughter by Steve Hadden pulled me in with its dark, layered mystery and kept me hooked with its constant sense of tension. I picked it up for the psychological suspense and family secrets, and it delivered a story that feels both intense and emotionally driven. The disappearance of Jim Munro sets everything in motion, but what really stood out was the complicated dynamic between Eli and the mentor’s daughter, especially as trust becomes harder and harder to define.

What I enjoyed most was how Steve Hadden blended suspense with deeper emotional stakes, making it more than just a thriller. The twists kept me guessing, and the exploration of loyalty, trauma, and family added depth to the story. At times the plot felt a bit complex, but it also made the payoff more satisfying as everything came together. I’d recommend this to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers with strong character dynamics, unexpected turns, and a story that keeps you thinking even after it ends.

Well, I will start by saying this was a very well written book with a unique plot and storyline. I personally have never read anything like it! I enjoyed the cast of characters, the good and the horrible. At times though I was also a little bored with the repeating of certain topics throughout the story and it was a little to long. Would definitely recommend if you like more of an action thriller writing style.

The Mentor’s Daughter is a twisty psychological thriller set in the high stakes world of Tulsa oil dynasties where power, lies, and family secrets collide 😳💼
When oil magnate Jim Munro goes missing, his estranged daughter becomes a key piece of a dangerous puzzle. Eli Scott, a haunted oilman with a complicated past, is pulled into the mystery and forced to work alongside her. Nothing about her feels simple and nothing about this case feels safe 🔍
As secrets unravel and loyalties shift, Eli is pushed into a world where trust is fragile and every truth comes with a cost, making every step feel more dangerous than the last.
💖 What I loved about this book is how quickly it pulls you into the suspense and keeps that tension going without letting up. I loved how messy and layered the family dynamics are, with secrets that feel like they could explode at any moment 😳 I also really enjoyed Eli’s emotional journey because it adds heart to all the chaos, and I loved how no one ever feels fully trustworthy, which makes every reveal hit harder and keeps you guessing right to the end 📖✨

The Mentor’s Daughter is a slick, simmering psychological thriller that feels like stepping into a world built on oil, power, and the kind of lies that stain everything they touch. It’s tense, layered, and full of that delicious uncertainty where you’re never quite sure who’s telling the truth — or if truth even exists in this family at all.

When oil titan Jim Munro disappears, the ripples hit fast. His estranged daughter — brilliant, sharp‑edged, and whispered about as sociopathic — becomes an unlikely lifeline. And for Eli Scott, still wrestling with old wounds and held together by the steady guidance of therapist Lizzy Beauregard, Jim isn’t just a missing man; he’s the mentor who once saved him, and perhaps also the one who nearly destroyed him.

The dynamic between Eli and Munro’s daughter is where the book really shines. They’re oil and water, forced into an uneasy alliance as they dig into a dynasty built on secrets, manipulation, and a legacy that’s far darker than either expected. Every revelation feels like another crack in the façade — ransom demands, buried betrayals, and a family history tangled in power plays and emotional landmines.

As Eli edges closer to the truth, the ground shifts beneath him. The novel leans beautifully into that psychological tension: trust becomes slippery, motives blur, and the cost of choosing wrong grows sharper with every chapter. By the time the final twist lands, you realise the story has been quietly tightening its grip from the very start.

A gripping, intelligent thriller about family loyalty, dangerous alliances, and the lies that hold empires together. Dark, twisty, and deeply human — perfect for readers who love their suspense with both adrenaline and emotional depth.
