Description
Perfect for fans of Alice Hoffman and Riley Sager's Middle of the Night, comes a sweeping, atmospheric thriller following a group of friends and the power given to them by the trees…
Rule 1: When the trees whisper, listen.
Rule 2: Don't go into the woods alone.
In the small mountain town of Whisper Ridge, the girls were inseparable. Joey, Quinn, Sophie, and Elena. Together, they channeled magic in the woods, living by six simple rules. The first being: when the trees whisper, listen.
But all rules are forgotten, all bonds broken, when Quinn is found dead in the trees.
In the aftermath, the friends scattered. All except Joey, who still can't move on. Until now, over a decade later, she again hears the trees whisper.
Those woods remember some of Quinn's last words, and for the first time, Joey realizes she may learn the truth of what happened to her best friend. And so, the friends return to Whisper Ridge, to the woods that once held their magic and their secrets. But unearthing the truth about Quinn puts them all in danger, and in order to survive they'll need to channel their power for the first time in fifteen years to finally put the past to rest.

Supernatural elements are rarely my thing when it comes to thrillers, but The Whisper is the perfect example of how they can elevate a story. I don't want to give too much away because the author does such a good job of teeing up the premise. The characters, the mountain setting, the plot — everything comes together in the most compelling way. I'm also not a fan of multiple POVs, especially over different timelines. Again, that structure was used so well in this story. This is the first time I've read Chelsea Iversen's writing, but I'm excited to read her other books, including whatever she publishes next.
I loved this book so much! Short chapters, crazy plot twists, witches, magic, and murder! Make sure to add it to your TBR! Release date July 28, 2026
I was entirely captivated by this eerie, atmospheric tale of childhood magic and dark secrets. Returning to Whisper Ridge with Joey and her estranged friends felt intensely claustrophobic, and the supernatural tension of the whispering woods kept me guessing until the very end.

The Whisper, by Chelsea Iversen, is an absolute masterpiece that grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go. It seamlessly blends an eerie, small-town mystery with deep emotional weight. She crafts a hauntingly beautiful narrative perfectly balancing spinechilling secrets with a touch of eerie magic.
The character development is phenomenal, making you invest in the girls as the tension builds to an unforgettable climax. The pace is flawless, delivering sharp twists that are genuinely shocking yet meticulously set up. It is rare to find a thriller that satisfies both the craving for a fast-paced mystery and the desire for rich, poetic prose.
This book will stay with you long after you turn the final page. Remember to follow the rules and listen to the trees!
