This is such a beautiful picture book with a profound message and illustrations that are so in tune with the words. It feels like both authors and the illustrator created with one mind, and one heart. The book gave a good yet brief historical background of the troubles between Greece and Turkey and the map was very helpful. I loved the Greek and Turkish vocabulary throughout the story. This picture book will be such a welcome addition in the classroom, and library as well of course in the home. Also a great resource for teaching conflict resolution, comparing and contrasting and more. I will definitely purchase a copy when it comes out.

Oh man! Get this book an award already! Highly recommended. No further explanation! What a solid read and flow of the story. It ticks all the box of what i expect to be a good story of two girls from Greece and Turkey. I like those similarities which added the cherry on top. Two girls from two countries that don't always get along become friends when they go fishing with their grandpas. A simple story that at one level will appeal to kids who know nothing about the historical animosity between Turkey and Greece. On another level, this is a profoundly meaningful story for our day when political and military actions overshadow the commonalities between the groups that are fighting. What I liked about this book is that it didn't feel didactic even though it has an obvious message. It's a fun story, one that I can imagine reading aloud. I also loved the pictures which are so authentic to the region.

This was a very short, but also very cute book about two girls, one from Türkiye and one from Greece, who view each other as competition at first and then become friends for the duration of their fishing trip. It is specifically about Türkiye and Greece as these two countries have a very tough history, but this history isn't addressed as part of the story itself. Instead, these two little girls go fishing with their grandfathers, and get worried that the other girl might catch all the fish. Then, however, they overcome this after an embarrassing situation that leads both grandpas to laugh at them, and they fish together, before sharing a meal and going back home. It's really quite a simple story, but still very cute. The art is also very beautiful.

A lovely look at two cultures who have historically clashed, but whom have more in common than they think. In this sweet story, two children find friendship despite language differences. The author shares a glossary of Greek and Turkish vocabulary and tells a bit of the history between the two countries. This was a charming book that will delight readers both young and old.
