Description
The Core Thesis
AFTEREGO is not a book about becoming a better version of oneself. It is a book about the failure of that very pursuit. It operates on the premise that for the high-achiever, "self-improvement" is often just a sophisticated maintenance of a high-performance cage. The book investigates the Adapted Identity - the curated, logical, and socially flawless mask constructed for survival - and what happens when that mask can no longer carry the weight of the soul.
The Narrative
Written by a high-stakes corporate lawyer who spent decades mastering the "simulations" of status and success, Afterego documents the collapse of the persona. When titles, logic, and intellectual dominance reached their limit, the author found the ultimate mirror for ego dissolution not in a temple, but in the stable.
The book uses the horse-human connection as its central, unforgiving metaphor. A horse cannot be lied to; it does not respond to a CV or a Master’s degree. It responds to the nervous system. Through this visceral interaction, the reader is led away from the "clean" language of modern spirituality and into the "grit" of somatic intelligence.
Structure & Methodology
The book is structured as a dismantling process in three primary layers:
The Architecture of the Mask: A forensic look at how we build the Adapted Identity through achievement, fear, and the need for belonging.
The Somatic Reckoning: Moving from the "bodyguard" (the intellect) to the body. Exploring why the nervous system holds the truth that the mind is dtrained to ignore.
The Return to What is Real: A transition from performance to presence. This section outlines the levels of consciousness development without turning "awakening" into another task on a to-do list.
The Insider’s Authority: Written from the perspective of a practicing attorney, the book bridges the gap between clinical precision and spiritual raw truth.
Anti-Self-Help Stance: It explicitly rejects the "fix-it" culture, offering instead a roadmap for occupying the void left after the ego's collapse.
Somatic Rigor: Unlike traditional memoirs, it integrates deep psychological insights with practical somatic reflections, centered on the unique mirror of equine-assisted deconstruction.
Target Audience
The "exhausted high-achiever." Professionals who have "won" the social game but are losing the internal one. Readers of Gabor Maté, Yuval Noah Harari, and C.G. Jung, who are looking for a more visceral, less sanitized approach to identity.
A Note From the Publisher
While I appreciate all feedback, I am especially interested in how readers respond to the book’s central themes: the exhaustion of self-improvement, the deconstruction of the adapted identity, the body as a mirror, and the use of horsemanship as a metaphor for presence, fear, surrender, and return.
Please note that AFTEREGO is not a traditional step-by-step self-help guide, productivity book, religious text, or conventional memoir. It includes reflective and embodied exercises, but its primary form is literary spiritual nonfiction.
Thank you for your time, honesty, and insight.
Marketing Plan
Comprehensive digital launch campaign starting May 2026. This includes a multi-platform social media campaign (Instagram/TikTok) focused on somatic intelligence and spiritual deconstruction.
Note for Reviewers: I highly value insightful feedback. The most thoughtful reviews will be featured and tagged on my official website (zherashbooks.com) and across my social media channels to provide maximum visibility for the reviewers and their platforms.
The author will be engaging in podcast interviews and guest blog posts within the spiritual and high-performance psychology niches. Targeted advertising via BooksGoSocial and Amazon Ads to ensure a sustained reach during the launch month.
This campaign is designed to reach readers who are not looking for a conventional workbook or formula, but for a deeper, more literary and embodied exploration of identity, consciousness, and inner transformation.
