Description

“A book about kindness feels especially meaningful right now. It’s one of the most important values we can teach our children and model every single day. …” —Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt, New York Times bestselling author

When a gentle girl named Kindness wanders into the Whispering Woods, everything begins to change. The trees that once shivered in fear grow still. The animals who hid in shadows start to peek out. And Bear—who has always felt too big, too different, too misunderstood—finds, for the very first time, that someone truly sees him.

Told with lyrical warmth and compassion, The Day Kindness Came is a heart-opening tale about the courage it takes to be kind and the magic that happens when we choose understanding over fear. With Phyllis Harris’s soft, sketchbook-style illustrations that dance with emotion, this timeless picture book reminds readers young and old that kindness isn’t just something we feel—it’s something we should do. A perfect story for classrooms, bedtime, and anyone who believes that even the smallest act of kindness can make the world a brighter place. Perfect for children ages four to eight.

This book is so endearing, with a sweet message and gorgeous, cozy artwork!
The Day Kindness Came tells a short story of looking beyond what you see and using kindness to truly learn about and know a person beyond appearances. It’s a beautiful book with an impactful message!

It does have more of an advanced vocabulary so I would recommend for 2nd grade and up!

What a sweet book! The interaction between the bear and the darling little girl reminds me of books like Winnie the Pooh or the Giving Tree. The bear is just delightful, and the little girl is magical, and together they learn about the importance of kindness. I know two little kids in our lives who are going to love this book! Perfect for toddlers!

Thank you to Phyllis Harris, Church Publishing/Morehouse Publishing, and NetGalley for an advance readers copy in return for my honest opinion

Received this advance copy courtesy of NetGalley.

I read this with my little. What a superb message it conveyed about being patient while making friends, accepting friends for who they are, and appreciating and celebrating others’ differences.

Great book for all ages.

Gorgeous illustrations in a beautifully written story about kindness. This is a book for all ages. The young girl named Kindness arrives in the Whispering Woods and befriends and accepts Bear. Kindness shows all the other woodland animals how to be kind. It is a simple message accompanied by images that reflect the words. I can't wait to read this to students and suggest it for the library.

This was a great little book. The story was simple but taught how to be kind to others. You could also see what came of the kindness. The pictures were beautiful. This would be a great book to read and then talk about being kind to others.
Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy. #TheDayKindnessCame #NetGalley

“The Day Kindness Came” is a beautifully illustrated picture book that immediately captures attention through its warm, detailed, and expressive artwork. The illustrations alone tell a powerful part of the story and create an inviting, gentle atmosphere that young readers will naturally be drawn into.

This book is perfectly suited for kindergarten-aged children. The language is simple, clear, and accessible, making it ideal for reading aloud in group settings or at home. It encourages early conversations about emotions, empathy, and how we treat one another.

At its heart, the story focuses on the value of kindness and the meaningful change it can bring. It gently shows how everyday acts of kindness can transform interactions and communities when people approach each other with openness, respect, and without prejudice.

“The Day Kindness Came” is a heartfelt reminder that even small gestures matter. It helps children understand that kindness is something we can choose, practice, and share, and that it has the power to make the world feel safer and more connected.

A highly recommended picture book for early childhood education and home libraries alike, especially for introducing important social and emotional learning themes in an age-appropriate and engaging way.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was so beautiful. The message along with the illustrations! This book was super sweet and easy for all to understand. A little kindness can do so much and start a trend where everyone can feel welcome. The pictures really showed the feelings the bear felt, and I liked that the words were written in the background. The illustrations were calm and cute. I read this with my daughters and they understood the emotions the bear was portraying and they loved the little girl. I would definitely read this to my 3s class to set a kind tone in the classroom. I loved it!
