A high-stakes, dark academia fantasy perfect for fans of The Raven Cycle and Legendborn.
Deja Freeman comes from a long line of witches, each one ushered into the magical Web by a woman before her—only she was never woven in. After her mother’s death, Deja’s aunt sought to protect her from the complications of magic. But when Deja enrolls at the prestigious Tanglewood Preparatory School, her mom’s alma mater, she finds herself walking the same perilous path that got her mother murdered.
Straight-A student Tóbi Ẹkúndayọ̀ is Tanglewood’s most popular student and future valedictorian. The only thing she has left to accomplish is winning junior class president. But her life keeps throwing curveballs, including strange, disturbing dreams that Tanglewood’s newest student seems to share.
Each dream is a piece of a complicated puzzle, but one thing lies at the center: the mysterious disappearance of one of Tanglewood’s best student. Joined by a motley crew of friends, the girls must work together to untangle the school’s dark history before the administration, or something far more sinister, catches up with them.

Dreamweaving by O.O. Sangoyomi is everything I want in a YA Dark Academia novel.
An elite boarding school where the world's wealthiest have attended for hundreds of years. You can easily feel the snobbery of the place and the overwhelming stress of being a student there too.
A small group of central characters whose diverse personalities are multi-layered and continue to reveal different layers throughout.
A multi-faceted plotline with two distinct threads. One serving as the catalyst for bringing the characters together, the other serving the development of the relationship between those characters.
Consistent pacing, an intriguing plotline that kept me fully engaged, and a touch of the supernatural sprinkled throughout.
This was a solid 5 star read for me which hooked me from the beginning and didn't let go until the end. When I say Let Go, I mean it. The end shocked me by how abruptly it cut off! There's so much unresolved I genuinely hope this is the first in a duology because I need to know what happens next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Page Street YA for the e-arc All opinions are my own and freely given.
This novel is absolutely for the Black girls.
What I loved most is that it transcends the same tired stereotypes we so often see. It goes beyond even books like Legendborn by offering a vision of Blackness that doesn't need proximity to whiteness to feel complete, authentic, or powerful.
I have a million theories after finishing this book. I understand why Deja has a POV, but I'm dying to know why Tobi does too. There has to be something bigger coming, and I cannot wait for that reveal.
This book was incredible from start to finish. Honestly, I hope it becomes more than a duology because two books simply won't be enough. The Web was barely explored, and it feels like there is so much more worldbuilding, lore, and story left to uncover.
And can we talk about O.O. Sangoyomi? She is an incredible writer and storyteller—a combination that feels increasingly rare these days. So often authors excel at one or the other, but she delivers both. Keep her. Cherish her. Support her.
LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this book.
Dreamweaving was such a pleasant surprise and my first introduction to O.O. Sangoyomi’s writing. From the very first chapter, I was pulled into a magical world where mystery, friendship, family legacy, and danger are woven together in a way that kept me turning the pages. The dual perspectives between Deja and Tóbi created an engaging story, and I loved slowly piecing together the secrets surrounding Tanglewood Preparatory School. Every chapter seemed to reveal another clue while raising even more questions, making it impossible not to keep reading.
One of my favorite aspects of this book was how it embraced Black girl magic both literally and figuratively. The world-building felt fresh and intriguing, and the magical Web added a unique layer to the story that made me want to learn more about its history and rules. By the end, I found myself asking so many questions: Why didn’t Deja’s mother want her woven into the Web? What really happened to Dawn Novak? Who is TG? Can Lorelei truly be trusted? And perhaps the biggest mystery of all…who is the Lady Spider of the Web? Rather than feeling frustrated, those unanswered questions left me genuinely excited for what comes next. If you enjoy YA fantasy filled with magic, mystery, secret societies, strong friendships, and twists that keep you guessing, Dreamweaving is definitely one to add to your TBR. I can’t wait to continue this series and read more from O.O. Sangoyomi.
I was not disappointed at all!!!
Wow wow woww
First of all, thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. After reading her first book titled masquerade, I've been interested in reading her works
And so when I saw that this was a dark academia fantasy novel, I said, yesss, sign me up!!
Thw story follows Deja and Tobi, two very different young Black girls at Tanglewood school in New England and shows how their lives will end up being bound by magic
Also, they have interconnected dreams which I found quite interesting and it reminded me of my experience when I read an arcane inheritance by kamilah Cole
This book was such a lovely read for me and I also liked the worldbuilding, the social commentary and also the intersection of race, power dynamics and finding oneself in an exclusive space.
I loved this
