This is a cool book about Juneteenth. Pretty straightforward narrative of what this celebration is, it's origin and how to celebrate it. That's that. No extra special stuff. But still I like it. The visuals are photos (vintage and modern) and it compliments the text.

This is a wonderful book that gives historical context while also showing gorgeous, bright pictures of modern celebrations. It's educational, with a glossary, but it's also fun and lighthearted.

Juneteenth is a short non-fiction illustrated information book for young children to teach what Juneteenth is, why it is celebrated and it's history and importance. The book is told in a clear to understand way for younger children and contains photographs and illustrations as well as a glossary of words used in the book and their meaning and some thinking questions which would make this book a great asset to any classroom environment.

Great read for young ones. I like that vocab words were in bold, and I thought they selected good ones for this book. It will certainly help increase knowledge in history and in pronouncing hard words!

Juneteenth is a simply written children's book that is accessible to a large range of readers. The easy to understand language makes it so anyone can read this and learn about this holiday on their own or with someone reading to them. It allows for a deeper understanding on what this holiday is and why it should be celebrated.

I loved the colorful pictures. It allows the reader to catch a glimpse at the history of this holiday as well as the present. I was particularly fond of the historical document shared in this story because it means it can be used in and out of the classroom with ease. Kim Thompson has created a great educational tool here, and I would highly recommend it for reading in and out of the classroom.

This is an excellent book about a really important historical day and event. I think that kids and adults can all learn a little something from this book, I certainly did. It is very important for young children to learn about the difficult parts of history in a way that is engaging and appropriate. I think that Juneteenth hit that balance perfectly. I also love the cover and I think young children will be drawn to it. I would definitely consider purchasing a copy of this book for my classroom library, especially if I was teaching in the US. I would recommend this book for children in the age 4-10. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

A quick, easy educational read for young kids about Juneteenth. I appreciated the simplicity of this and even learned a new thing or two myself.

Seen as a sample of a set of six quick reads for the very youngest reader, this tells us about Juneteenth – why it was created, and what tends to happen for its celebration. Normally books for this age range just have the sparse few words per page, but this actually takes advantage of all that space (no it doesn't think white is bad, how dare you think that!) and packs in historical images. So we see the slavery background to the day, and everything relevant through emancipation right up to the red velvet cake so familiar to celebrants today. As a Brit, it was certainly able to educate me a little about the day, which was made a lot more official after my last visit there. And it certainly makes a friendly lesson for anyone who has the holiday on their calendars.

Thank you for allowing me the advance copy of this book. I think it is so important for children to learn about the importance of our holidays. Especially since this is not a holiday I personally grew up celebrating, I want to make sure my children have the knowledge I didn't have.

This is a colorful easy to read book for the youngest (kindergarten-primary school age) with a simple age appropriate introduction to the holiday and how it came to be and why. Included in the book are highlighted words and important concepts as well as a short question and answer list and glossary in the back of the book.

The series also includes holidays from numerous cultures such as Holi, Thanksgiving, Earth Day, and others.

Five stars. It would make an excellent choice for public, classroom, or home library acquisition, or for gift giving.
