Description
Pulling back the veil of illusion to see your mind's programming
If you’ve ever hit rock bottom and then completely changed how you live and do things, you’ve gone through an Ego Degradation. If you’ve ever had physical symptoms that you couldn’t explain - your personality becoming unrecognizable to your friends and family - you’ve gone through an Ego Degradation. If you’ve ever felt like you were losing your mind but came out more spiritual, more aware, more connected, then you’ve gone through an Ego Degradation. Ego Degradation is the 'how' to awakening, and it is the reason awakening comes with so many physical symptoms: when the mind can no longer take its falsely understood existence and thereby strips itself of programming.
Utilizing science and psychology to explain how the brain and society create programming within the ego, as well as philosophy and spirituality to give step-by-step actions on how to overcome emotions and feelings that surface with trauma and triggers, Ego Degradation explains that what is experienced by who you believe yourself to be is, truly, mere perception.

"Alexx Shaw’s Ego Degradation digs deeply into identity breakdown and conscious rebuilding, and I think this is more important now than it has ever been. It's an idea that is totally relevant to modern life, where people are pushed to perform and to keep interpreting themselves at all times. Shaw writes in simple, straightforward, and accessible language. The narrative occasionally roams into an academic voice, but it never felt confusing and was not difficult to follow. What I love most about the book is that Shaw gives readers the tools to make it usable in daily life. In one exercise, Shaw asks the reader to write down a recurring expectation, such as how a partner or colleague should respond, then trace the fear attached to that expectation. In another, Shaw explains a pause and breath method for emotionally charged moments, so we can separate the bodily reaction from the meaning later assigned to it. Readers who feel estranged from their own reactions and want a structured path back to self-trust, and those drawn to philosophical perspectives of mental programming, will find Shaw's work ticks all the boxes. Very highly recommended."

"Combining philosophy, psychology, science, and spirituality, Alexx Shaw has written a comprehensive book that covers every facet of the ego. Ego Degradation is for anyone who feels overwhelmed by life's challenges. Whether you're suffering from imposter syndrome or having a tough time forming meaningful relationships, this book is for you. It will help you shatter your own illusions, so you feel spiritually and psychologically invigorated and begin a new chapter of your life. Shaw takes a deep dive into every single concept and topic featured in this book, making sure readers have a firm grasp of the content. The author also has an accessible writing style that will appeal to a broad range of readers. All in all, I found Ego Degradation to be an informative and relevant book for the times we live in. Highly recommended."

"Alexx Shaw brings her considerable experience as a teacher and healer to the fore, explaining that Ego Degradation is not the same as Ego Death. We need the Ego to survive, but it does not need to prove itself. Similarly, the role of non-attachment versus detachment is clarified. Readers should embrace acceptance and submission and learn the lessons that adversity provides. Examples of events that trigger an Ego Degradation are presented. They are often unexpected or unplanned, and the list makes interesting reading. The writing style is concise and clear, taking readers through the stages of Ego Degradation, dealing with the trauma, confronting the accompanying stigma of mental illness, and emerging from it. I found the section on karmic relationships, soulmates, soul tribes, and twin flames to be particularly useful, as the reality differs markedly from the public perception. Notes on the Ego Degradation symptoms are included, as well as an excellent comparison of how various religions view the Ego. A list of references completes a comprehensive study of this seldom-discussed topic. This insightful blend of science, psychology, religion, neuroscience, and spirituality is highly recommended."

"The central idea kept pulling me back: what if the stories I tell myself are not facts, but programs I keep running because they once helped me survive?...there is a very human question: how much of my suffering comes from reality, and how much comes from my grip on reality?"
