Description
Patience is a virtue, but when it comes to walking Sparky the dog, even the most patient of dog owners would despair!
Sparky is not your average dog. Whether sniffing at people’s feet, circling fountains or trying to climb lampposts, he is always on the hunt for something. Walking Sparky requires a lot of patience, which his owners have to varying degrees. But what exactly is he looking for?

There is a lot to like here. First, learning about dog breeds and that they have defining characteristics. That is fun. Hearing familiar breeds like French bulldog and German Poodle, and unfamiliar ones (Andalusion Rat Terrier).
It will be fun for students to predict what kind of spot the dog is looking for, and students with background knowledge and schema will undoubtedly guess correctly.
The patience-o-meter is fun for beginning graph reading.
There may be gales of laughter at the end, and it will be important to read the pictures at the end and wonder why the perfect spot has action lines.
It is indeed funny, but I felt bad for the turtle, and I would have loved it so much better if the girls had cleaned the poor turtle up at the end so everyone could have had a happy ending.

An absolute gem! Fantastic story telling and illustrations that captivate and delight! This one is 100% going on the classroom library bookshelf!! And no spoilers here, but you HAVE to read to the end!

This is not a bedtime story. Kids will be laughing at the pictures, especially the ones with the dog wearing funny French clothes. Then they'll get interested in looking for the perfect spot. In the end, there will be chaos as they realize what the perfect spot is. This was hilarious.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me review this

A fun and cute children's story. I definitely could see myself reading this during a storytime (maybe a theme of dogs or of patience) and the kids and parents both giggling. Especially in the end with the poop cause what kid doesn't love pop humor lol. The illustrations were very vibrant and whimsical.

As a mom of five and now a grandma to two, I have read more picture books than I can count, and this one truly made me pause and smile in the sweetest way. From the very first page, it just feels calm and inviting, like it is gently reminding you to slow down and really look.
I love how much there is to discover on every single page. It is one of those books where little eyes can wander and find something new each time you open it. I found myself lingering, pointing things out to my grandkids, and even noticing new details the more we went back to it. That is always a sign of a special book to me.
The illustrations are just beautiful. They are clear, crisp, and so thoughtfully done. Everything feels intentional and clean while still giving you so much to explore. As a former educator, I really appreciate how visually engaging it is without feeling overwhelming. It naturally invites conversation, curiosity, and those sweet little moments of connection while reading together.
This is absolutely one I will keep in our rotation. It feels cozy, meaningful, and full of little details that make reading time extra special. Honestly, it is just as enjoyable for the grownups as it is for the kids.
