Description

Wedding ambush! As part of the Treaty of York securing Scotland's withdrawal from the Wars of the Roses, twin Highlanders are forced to wed widowed Englishwomen, one a Yorkist, the other a Lancastrian. Blair Robertson never believed in love at first sight, until he set eyes on Susanna Glazebrook. But Fate had destined her for his brother, Craig. The appearance on the scene of an uncle who reportedly drowned thirty years before further complicates the journey north from England to the Highlands. If you love Highlander romance, time travel and history, and you like to laugh and cry, this book is for you.

A new format from one of the very best and most prolific romance authors. I have been following since her very first novel Conquering Passion and never, ever been disappointed. The Caledonia Chronicles represent a new setting, a new landscape but the same in-depth historical detail, blended with a touch of the whimsical and the occasional belly laugh. Characters are always richly portrayed with all the human foibles and gifted with the opportunity to rise up to the challenges presented. One purely enchanting writer.

Roses Among the Heather Anna Markland is #3 in her "Caledonia Chronicles" but can be read as a stand alone. A quick read, packed full of emotional baggage, a twist of fate, a bit of mystery, some suspense, a unique bit of Time Travel weaved within, and a powerful love at first site, tale. The characters simply leap from the pages as they transverse from England to Scotland, with newly acquired English Brides-to-Be, who have conflicting believes, their Scottish Husbands -to-be, by order of the King and a Bishop, who happens to be their believed dead Uncle Donal, who drowned thirty years prior. They encounter obstacles along the way, a fire, a drowning, the frigid cold but they also find something more, a oneness, friends, passion, boldness and hopefully, their HEA.
I enjoyed this tale, it was hard to put down. The storyline was uniquely written. The characters engaging and enduring. Ms. Markland is a fantastic author, who brought her story to life through the pages of her story. A delight to read! Fans of Medieval Romance, Historical Romance, Scotland, Highlanders, England, and a bit of Time Travel, will enjoy this delightful tale. An enjoyable and satisfying read!

Having enjoyed The Rover Betrayed, this NetGalley reviewer was more than happy to take a chance on another Scottish historical romance by this author. If you like a dual, simultaneously unfolding romantic tale featuring Scottish twin brothers who want to fiancée swamp after they are commanded by the king to marry English widows, you might want to read this one. Though I enjoyed it, I did find it tiresome at times to endure four people’s viewpoint/perspective/feelings on every event that happened. Since a majority of this short read occurred on their journey back to Scotland, it didn’t leave a lot of time for a more in-depth plot/intrigue. Meaning, it was pretty predictable, my fellow romance book-loving friends. But it was still refreshingly romantic to see two likeable heroes wind up with their soulmates and live happily ever after.

Roses Among the Heather by Anna Markland tells the story of twins Blair and Craig Robertson, and their futures wives Susanna and Timothea. The twin are caught in a scheme of alliances when the King decrees the Highlanders will marry English widows to strengthen the alliances between the Scots and English. The widows Timothea Bradshawe and Susanna Glazebrook have both had disastrous marriages; two different types of women with conflicting beliefs who must now remarry at their Kings decree. Their live are intertwined as we follow their daring journey of passion and adventure across the highlands. I highly recommend this novella for fans of Scottish romances.

Roses Among the Heather by Anna Markland

This is a great story about two twin brothers, Blair and Craig Robertson that are having to marry two widowed per King Edward has decreed. The two widowed Timothea Bradshawe and Susanna Glazebrook both have had hard previous marraiges and are not so sure about this new decreed set by the king. In addition, Timothea and Susanna don't like each other from the start. Blair, Craig, Timothea and Susanna start their adventurous story heading back to the Highlands.

This was a great story that I hope that you will enjoy too!

Set in the time of the War of the Roses, Anna Markland delivers a nice story of love at first sight. It is the third book in the Caledonian Chronicles, finishing up some loose ends from the series. Blair and Craig Robertson are twins, pledged to sign the treaty between England and Scotland to finalize Scotland's part in the war. Unbeknownst to them, their part includes marrying two English widows, Timothea and Susanna. Unfortunately Timothea, a Yorkist and Susanna, a Lancastrian are sworn enemies, even their maids hate each other. The Scots and the widows they are chosen to marry are arranged by random. Blair, Craig, Timathea, and Susanna are matched. At first glance Blair and Susanna, Craig and Timothea are attracted to each other. However they are matched to the wrong ones.
How do they solve this dilemma? What's up with the bishop they meet, who turns out to be one of their uncles who drowned thirty years ago? Will Susanna and Timothea, and their maids get over their animosity to start their new lives? All of these questions are answered by reading the book. An enjoyable read, well worth the time.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne England, 1465

This book is about the story of twin bothers Blair and Craig Robertson being forced to marry report to New Castle as part of the day of the end of The War of the Roses treaty. This decreed by King Edward and a Bishop who looks like thier long dead Uncle Ducan, who died of drowning thirty years prior. It is determined they are both to take English wives Susanna Glazebrooke and Timothea Bradshawe.

The twin brothers are less then thrilled by this knowledge at least they are at first. The woman who both are widows, coming from bad marriages are even less then thrilled to marry these strangers, who happen to be barbaric Scots! Yet the brothers will do anything for the good of the Clan! As common practice for this time period in history to secure alliances between countries, the answer often was a political marriage.

On top of that the women seem to detest each other. So definitely this journey back to Scotland is going to have to tread lightly as their definitely going to hit some rough waters. Besides having a rough journey back to Scotland with fires, downing and horrid weather conditions.

This is a fast paced riveting adventure meaty novella close to two hundred pages plus lined with true historical details which is always a favorite of mine. Plus filled with mystery, suspense, time-travel, emotion, laughter, magical elements, passion and finally true love. A delightful truly magical read!

This is the third book in Anna Mackland's Caledonia series you can read alone or in book order. So for readers who have read the previous books they will be happy to revisit some of those characters in this book too. Highly recommend this wonderful book and series!
